The No. 6 Oregon Ducks and No. 13 Utah Utes will square off at Autzen Stadium in what amounts to an elimination game for the Pac-12 Championship.

Oregon held the inside track to the Pac 12 Championship before a surprise loss to Washington last week, and now sit 8-2 (6-1 conference). The Ducks are No. 12 in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings.

Utah opened the season with a loss to Florida and then had a road loss to a good UCLA team, but other than that, it’s been smooth sailing. The Utes beat Stanford 42-7 last week, improving to 8-2 (6-1 conference), and are No. 10 in the latest College Football playoff rankings.

Oregon vs Utah Odds

Oregon is a three-point favorite at home, hinting that this game would likely be around a pick ’em if played on a neutral site.

This total is about on par with the norm for these two teams, but with two run-first teams against strong defenses, it leads me to believe the oddsmakers think there are a couple of big plays mixed in to get into the 60s.

Oregon vs Utah Implied Totals

Oregon 32.25, Utah 29.25

The implied odds, as of the BetMGM Sportsbook on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 10 a.m. ET, have Oregon winning a close, but reasonably high-scoring game.

If you assume three points for home-field advantage, the oddsmakers expect the two teams’ on-the-field talent to be nearly equal.

Oregon vs Utah Prediction

Utah 31, Oregon 27

With a surprisingly steady Bo Nix leading the way, the Ducks are in a prime position to make the Pac-12 Championship, even after a disappointing loss to Washington a week ago.

Nix has had by far the best season of his college career completing 73% of his passes for 24 touchdowns to just five interceptions, and the Ducks offense is averaging 527 yards of total offense per game, the most in the Pac-12.

Utah has a talented quarterback of their own in junior Cameron Rising. Rising might not have taken the leap to a Heisman contender like some were predicting, but he’s been steady, completing 66.3% of his passes and a 19:4 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

The difference maker in this game is the Utah defense. Utah has boasted arguably the best defensive unit in the Pac-12 for the last five seasons and it’s no different in 2022.

The Utah defense can stop the run, and they’ll make Nix beat them. And we remember how Nix fared against an elite-level defense when Oregon opened the season with a 49-3 loss to Georgia.

Oregon vs Utah Best Bets

Utah +3 (-105) at DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

This Utah defense makes all the difference.

In what should be a close, back-and-forth game, I’ll lean on the Utah defense to get the stops they need to hang around in this game.

It’s the best defense that Oregon has seen since Georgia in its opening week. The loss last week to take the Ducks out of playoff contention is no doubt a setback mentally, and they struggle to refocus.

Total Points Under 62.5 (-110) at FanDuel Sportsbook

These two teams are familiar with each other after years of battling in similar situations, and this has the feeling of a slow start in which neither offense plays to its potential.

Both teams have strong running attacks which will keep the clock rolling. And neither defense is going to allow the other to run all over them.

In a highly anticipated matchup, the nerves play a factor early and a slow start is enough to keep this total Under.
