Hawks Odds, Spreads, & Props 2024

Last Updated: Aug 21, 2023

The Atlanta Hawks had an average campaign in 2022-23, going 41-41 and never sitting more than four games above the .500 mark. Atlanta had a potent offense that ranked third in scoring, but defense was an issue all season, posting a bottom-10 defensive rating and allowing over 118 points per game.

The Hawks moved on from Nate McMillan in the middle of the year and brought in former Utah Jazz coach Quin Snyder, who went 10-11 through his first 21 regular-season games before being ousted by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs.

After trading John Collins to Utah and making a few improvements on the margins, the Hawks appear set to (largely) run it back this year. If you’re considering betting on Atlanta during the 2023-24 NBA season, consider starting with these hand-picked Hawks prop bets.

Hawks: Over 42.5 Wins (-105)

Caesars Sportsbook • WAGER: 2 Units

This is by far my favorite Hawks prop bet for the 2023-24 NBA season. Atlanta has won 41 or more games in each of the last three years, and Snyder has developed a reputation for being one of the better regular-season coaches in the league today.

Between Trae Young and Dejounte Murray, Snyder has an absurd amount of juice to work with on offense, and Bogdan Bogdanović and Saddiq Bey have proven to be reliable scorers, as well. Cleaning up the defense will take some work, but that takes on more importance in the postseason.

The Eastern Conference also got weaker this summer, with the Philadelphia 76ers (presumably) dismantling and the Washington Wizards — who are in Atlanta’s division — looking like the league’s punching bag. With that in mind, getting Over 42.5 wins shouldn’t be hard to come by.

Lock in the Hawks to win at least 43 games this season with your NBA bet of the day.

Hawks: Make Play-In Tournament (+125)

Caesars Sportsbook • WAGER: 1 Unit

I’m a believer in Atlanta’s postseason chances, but betting on it to participate in the Play-In Tournament — or, in other words, finish in the range of the No. 7 through 10 seeds — is a much better wager at (+125) than it is to back the Hawks to make the playoffs outright at (-200).

After earning the No. 5 seed in 2020-21, Atlanta finished ninth and eighth, respectively, in the following seasons. And while the East has opened up a bit, there are still a number of other contenders I would expect to finish ahead of the Hawks in the standings.

Atlanta has the fourth-shortest odds to participate in the East’s Play-In Tournament, but this is still a solid value. Even if the Hawks underperform in 2023-24, they should still be able to qualify.

Hawks: Win NBA In-Season Tournament Group (+350)

Caesars Sportsbook • WAGER: 0.5 Units

The Hawks got a relatively good group draw according to the NBA In-Season Tournament odds. The Cleveland Cavaliers (+175), 76ers (+240), Indiana Pacers (+525), and Detroit Pistons (+850) will be their opponents, all of whom can certainly be bested by Atlanta.

The tournament will take place in November and December, and it’s possible that Philadelphia could still be dealing with the James Harden problem at that point. Cleveland is also vulnerable due to its offensive woes, and Indiana and Detroit simply aren’t on the same level as Atlanta yet.

Despite having the third-shortest odds to win the group, things could easily break in the Hawks’ favor. The small sample could allow for some unexpected outcomes, and we know what Ice Trae can do when the stakes get high.

How to Bet on Hawks Games 2024

How to Bet Hawks Moneylines

Moneylines are as simple as it gets in sports betting. With this type of wager, all you need to do to win is correctly pick the winner of a game.

A team’s moneyline odds will change depending on the matchup, which also alters how much money you can win by betting on them. For example, you wouldn’t make as much profit by wagering on the Hawks to defeat the Wizards as you would by picking them to upset the Milwaukee Bucks.

Atlanta went 41-41 this past season, which made moneyline betting a bit tricky. They were also just 15-26 outright as the underdog, meaning it was rarely a good idea to bet on the Hawks when they weren’t already expected to win.

How to Bet Hawks Spreads

Rather than focusing on winning and losing, spread betting instead looks at how well a team performs against a given point differential. This margin is set before a game and is an implication of how many points the game is expected to be decided by.

For example, if the Hawks are on the road in Milwaukee, they would likely be a sizable underdog. At a sportsbook, that spread bet would look something like this: Hawks +8.5 (-110) at Bucks -8.5 (-110).

For the Hawks to cover the spread, they would either have to win the game outright or lose by less than 8.5 points. On the other hand, the Bucks could cover only by winning by more than 8.5 points.

Atlanta went just 36-45-1 against the spread in 2022-23, which implies that this team often did not live up to expectations.

How to Bet Hawks Over/Unders

Over/Unders are another popular type of bet, and they’re best to go for when you’re unsure about which team will win a game. Instead, these bets have to do with the total number of points that will be scored in a game.

Using that same example from above, the Over/Under in a game between the Hawks and Bucks might be set at 231.5 points. In this case, the Over would hit if more than 231.5 points are scored, while the Under would be the winning bet if the total falls below that mark.

Atlanta saw 47 Overs to 35 Unders in 2022-23, meaning Hawks games generally tended to be higher-scoring.
