Week 14 of the NFL season is here and one of the NFC matchups we will see is the Seattle Seahawks hosting Sam Darnold and the Carolina Panthers. Geno Smith has been playing some excellent football this year and this team has far exceeded expectations.
After losing Russell Wilson to the Broncos, expectations were not very high for Seattle. The Seahawks are sitting in second place in the NFC West, with a respectable 7-5 record.
Carolina, on the other hand, is third in the NFC South with a 4-8 record.
Seattle just took down the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams last week, 27-23, while the Panthers had their bye week. After releasing Baker Mayfield, the Panthers will be rolling with Darnold this week to face Seattle.

Panthers vs Seahawks Odds
Seattle opens up as the home favorites in this matchup, and rightfully so. They’ve been showing a lot of promise this year despite losing Wilson, while the Panthers are struggling.
If the Seahawks want to hang on to their playoff spot, they’ll need a few more wins, while the Panthers are looking like they’ll be watching from home this year. I believe they’re much better than the oddsmakers are giving them credit for, and I’m a bit surprised the odds aren’t heavier in Seattle’s favor.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Seahawks are projected to win this one by a field goal. With a spread of just three points, I’m a bit surprised that they aren’t heavier favorites.
Seattle should remain the favorite up until kickoff, with potentially an additional half-point or more in their favor.

Panthers vs Seahawks Prediction
Seahawks 27, Panthers 20
Smith and the Seahawks’ offense should have no problem putting points on the board this week. Carolina’s secondary isn’t great and with weapons like DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, they should both see a good amount of production.
Their rookie running back, Kenneth Walker, is dealing with a foot injury and could end up sitting this week.
The Seahawks can be beaten on the ground, so look for the Panthers to try and establish the run with D’Onta Foreman and Chuba Hubbard. If they can establish the run, they might be able to get D.J. Moore going in the passing game, but he’s been inconsistent and this Seattle secondary is tough.
Overall, I’m betting it’s going to be a struggle for Carolina.
I’m expecting the Seahawks to put up numbers on offense and stop the Carolina offense. Their defense has been trending up and in a game that is one they need to win to lock up a playoff spot, I’m taking the Seahawks to win this one by a touchdown.

With a spread of just 3.5 points, I’m taking the Seahawks to cover over the Panthers this week. Carolina has really been struggling to find their identity this year and are very close to the point where they need to just focus on 2023.
The quarterback situation is rough, and interim head coach Steve Wilks has chosen to release Mayfield and go with Darnold for the remainder of the year. Since the firing of Matt Rhule, they’re nearly at the point where they should just tank for 2023.
Look for Seattle to win this one and cover the 3.5 points.

This Seattle offense has been one of the highest-scoring ones in the NFL this year. They’re averaging 26.5 points per game this year, which is the fifth-highest in the league.
Meanwhile, Carolina is toward the bottom at 19.2
I’m expecting Smith and this Seattle offense to have their way with a weak Carolina defense this week. The Panthers could get down quickly and get stuck playing from behind.
Darnold will have nothing to lose at this point and might be playing to earn a starting spot for next year over the next few weeks. This could lead to big plays and even some garbage time scoring, making the Over the bet to take in this matchup.
