Are Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in trouble?

It might be too soon to count out the GOAT, but after a demoralizing loss to Pittsburgh, the Bucs dropped to 3-3 and into a tie for first in the NFC South.

The Panthers find themselves in No. 1 pick territory after losing three straight games to NFC West foes. The most recent — a 24-10 road loss to the Rams — dropped Carolina to 1-5 on the year.

Continue reading the best bets, predictions, and betting tips for the NFC South battle for Tampa Bay vs Carolina.

Buccaneers vs Panthers Odds

The Bucs are 13-point favorites at home, the biggest favorites in the NFL this week.

The total of 43.5 is among the lowest in the NFL despite the double-digit spread, a compliment to these two defenses or, more likely, dissent against the two offenses.

Take a look at the best Buccaneers odds and Panthers odds for the 2022 NFL season.

Buccaneers vs Panthers Implied Totals

Buccaneers 25.75, Panthers 12.75

Bookmakers are projecting a low-scoring, but dominant, win from the Bucs.

Both of these offenses have struggled, but they’re projecting that the Bucs’ defense dominates the game and handles a turbulent Carolina team.

Buccaneers vs Panthers Prediction

Bucs 23, Panthers 14

This feels like a spot to get back on the right track for the Bucs after a disappointing road loss to the Steelers last week.

The Tampa Bay offense has looked more pathetic than poised this season, scoring just 20.2 points per game.

Tom Brady has been OK, but continues to make headlines for his divorce and more recently missing a Friday walkthrough for a wedding.

The normally hyper-focused Brady is accustomed to controversy, but not in his personal life. Although he has thrown for 1,652 yards and eight touchdowns, even he would agree he needs to be better.

Of course, the nagging injuries of Chris Godwin and Julio Jones, plus the one-game suspension of Mike Evans, haven’t done him any favors.

The Bucs’ run game has been the worst in the league rushing for just 67.5 yards per game. Leonard Fournette has handled nearly all the work boasting a 76% snap share and 95 carries in six games - both second in the NFL.

The bright side for Tampa Bay has been their solid defensive play, but even the veteran defense has had its share of issues. The Bucs’ defense couldn’t get off the field against Pittsburgh, allowing third-down conversions of 15 and 11 on the final drive.

The good news for the Bucs? Carolina not only has one of the worst rosters in the NFL but has traded two key offensive pieces and begun its rebuild.

Star running back Christian McCaffery was traded Thursday night to the 49ers in exchange for a haul of picks. Robbie Anderson was traded a day after an altercation with interim head coach Steve Wilks.

Former head coach Matt Rhule was fired earlier in the season after a slow start. And the offseason addition of Baker Mayfield has been an unmitigated disaster.

With Mayfield expected to miss this game with an ankle injury, PJ Walker, who completed 10 of 16 passes for 60 yards against the Rams, will get his second straight start.

Without McCaffery as a safety valve, Walker could be in a world of hurt. Out of the 10 completions against the Rams, just one was beyond the line of scrimmage.

The Bucs have dominated the Panthers across the last three and a half seasons, including winning and covering in six of their last seven games against Carolina.

  • The total has gone Under in four of Carolina’s last five games.
  • Tampa Bay is 1-4 ATS in their last five games.
  • The total has gone Under in five of Tampa Bay’s last six games.

Buccaneers vs Panthers Best Bets

Under 38.5 Total Points (-110) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Both offenses are struggling, and the Panthers’ offense is in complete shambles without McCaffery and Anderson.

The Bucs’ defense dominates this game and could realistically hold the Panthers to single digits with P.J. Walker at the helm.

As McCaffery went, the Panthers’ offense went, and without him as a safety valve this offense is a lost cause.

Carolina Panthers +13 (-110) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Home underdogs in the NFL are usually a solid bet, especially in divisional games.

This Bucs offense just has too many question marks to lay nearly two touchdowns, even against a rebuilding Panthers team.

The Bucs should have no problem getting the win, but especially with the low total, I’m taking the underdog Panthers to keep it within the number.
