Browns vs Eagles Predictions & Best Bets

Last Updated: Aug 15, 2023

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to host the Cleveland Browns this Thursday evening after a week of joint practices. Both teams will be looking to improve on last week’s performances after the two failed to secure a victory during the first week of preseason.

The game is set to kick off Thursday, Aug. 17, at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Browns vs Eagles Odds

NFL odds used for this Cleveland vs Philadelphia preview were found at DraftKings Sportsbook and are current as of Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 10 a.m. ET.

  • Moneyline: Eagles (-185) • Browns (+154)
  • Spread: Eagles -3.5 (-110) • Browns +3.5 (-110)
  • Total Points: Over 38 (-110) • Under 38 (-110)
  • Implied Score: Eagles 20.5, Browns 18

Browns vs Eagles Predictions

Score Pick: Eagles 20, Browns 16

I’m giving last year’s Super Bowl runner-ups a slight edge when these two squads face off Thursday. Most reports out of the first day of joint practices have favored the Eagles, and that should come as no surprise based on the success of last year’s team.

However, it is important to note that since the teams are partaking in joint practices, we likely won’t see certain starters during Thursday’s game. This is certainly a possibility due to both teams suffering minor injuries to significant players.

The Browns will also be playing their third preseason game after participating in the Hall of Fame Game at the beginning of August.

Should multiple significant starters sit on both sides, you can expect the Eagles’ slightly more experienced backups to lead their squad to victory during Thursday night’s matchup.

Browns vs Eagles Best Bets & Props

Eagles -3.5 (-110)

DraftKings Sportsbook • WAGER: 2 Units

Selecting the Eagles to cover is my NFL bet of the day for Thursday night’s matchup. Philadelphia’s defense has looked as good as advertised throughout camp and should have no problem against an underwhelming Cleveland offense.

The Browns’ offense has also looked prone to turnovers with four in just two games. If this trend continues Thursday, the Eagles should have no problem controlling this game and coming away with a victory fairly handily.

Eagles (-185)

DraftKings Sportsbook • WAGER: 2 Units

With what we know about these two teams, taking Philadelphia to win straight-up seems like the most reasonable outcome for Thursday’s game.

The Eagles have yet to showcase offensive stars Jalen Hurts or DeVonta Smith, among several others. Should head coach Nick Sirianni decide to roll out the starters, even for a couple of series, Philadelphia will likely jump out to a quick lead and have the advantage going forward.

Cleveland may also decide to sit some of its better players with this being its third preseason game with one still left to play.

Under 38 (-110)

DraftKings Sportsbook • WAGER: 1 Unit

Betting the point total for a preseason matchup can be especially difficult with so many question marks surrounding who will play. You can make a greater assumption of what will happen as we get closer to kickoff, however, as for right now, I’m taking the Under for this one.

Neither offense has been particularly dominant in their preseason games or during the first joint practice. The two teams also have several big names on the defensive side and should some play, we could see both teams forced to punt early on.

It will be interesting to monitor how the line changes as we get more clarification on who will be active for Thursday’s game.

Browns vs Eagles Same Game Parlay

Browns vs Eagles SGP (+264)

DraftKings Sportsbook • WAGER: 1 Unit

  • PHI Eagles -3.5 (-110)
  • Under 38 Points (-110)

Sportsbooks are not currently offering many wagers for this matchup as there is still little information known about who will play.

You can only assume that last year’s NFC champions will find a way to come away with a relatively comfortable victory this Thursday. The Under will be the biggest moving variable depending on what information comes out of practice over the next 24 hours.
