Washington Football Team Schedule, Changes, and Outlook
The Washington Football Team shocked the world by making the playoffs last season for the first time since 2015. Even more shockingly, they did so with Alex Smith playing football again! Smith retired, however, leaving the offense in the hands of journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Washington attempted to upgrade their offense during the offseason by adding speed, and lots of it. Curtis Samuel and Dyami Brown expand the dimensions of the offense by providing threats to the house from every sector of the field, making Terry McLaurin‘s job easier as well. Samuel in particular adds versatility to the offense, as he can be used out of the slot or as a deep threat.
The offensive line was solid last year, and could be even better this year with the additions of second-round draft pick Sam Cosmi and Charles Leno Jr. via free agency. The line try to keep making holes for star running back Antonio Gibson, who’s looking to take a step forward in 2021 with more work as a receiver.
While Washington is improving on offense, its true strength is its defense. The Football Team ranked 3rd in defensive DVOA last season as their defense carried them to the postseason. The additions of young stud CB Will Jackson III via free agency and first-round pick Jamin Davis should help Washington’s defense remain elite this year.
Washington Football Team 2021 Win Total Bet Pick
Washington To Win UNDER 8 Games In 2021 NFL Season (+110)
While the Football Team is a force to be reckoned with on defense, it’s hard to see them scraping together enough offense given their lack of talent at quarterback and skill positions. They were incredibly fortunate to win the NFC East last year with a losing record, but Dallas, New York, and Philadelphia have all improved. A tough schedule won’t do them any favors, either.
Washington’s rugged style of play will result in some hard-fought victories, but the lack of offensive firepower will cause them to lose close affairs. Even with the extra game on the schedule, I think eight wins is a stretch for the Football Team until they remedy their quarterback situation.
