Seahawks 2021 Schedule, Changes, and Outlook
The Seattle Seahawks are coming off three straight playoff appearances heading into the 2021 season, the most recent of which followed a 12-4 regular season. Despite playing in one of the toughest divisions in football, the Seahawks should be able to take advantage of several non-divisional games this year against easier opponents such as the Texans, Jaguars, and Lions.
While the Seahawks’ offense finished 17th in the NFL in 2020, they were eighth in scoring with 28.7 points per game. Led by MVP candidate Russell Wilson, who ranked second in the league with 40 touchdown passes, the offense featured an explosive passing attack. Seattle reverted to its run-heavy ways in the second half of the season, however, which limited the offense’s overall output.
After firing offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer during the offseason, the Seahawks went out and hired Rams passing game coordinator Shane Waldron to replace him as their OC. Seattle will look to be more aggressive under Waldron, who is younger and brings more of a new school approach after working with Sean McVay. He’ll have plenty to work with in Wilson, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and tight end Gerald Everett, who played under him in Los Angeles.
The offense will need to score lots of points to compensate for a defense that has deteriorated in recent years, ranking 22nd in the NFL last season. Their secondary was especially porous, ranking second-to-last after giving up 285 yards per contest. The run defense was solid, however, and the pass rush ranked sixth in sacks with 46 last year, so it’s not all bad for Seattle there.
Seahawks 2021 Make Playoffs Bet: Yes Or No For Seattle?
Seahawks Make 2021 NFL Playoffs? YES (-110)
Pete Carroll’s Seahawks may not be perfect, but they always seem to find their way into the playoffs. Seattle has posted a winning record in nine consecutive seasons, reaching the postseason eight times during that span. Wilson is one of the best quarterbacks in the game, and as long as he’s healthy the Seahawks will continue to contend.
