On Friday I took a shot on the Detroit Tigers’ team total, which cashed after they blew up for 6 runs in the 7th inning. Needless to say, I was proud to win a Tigers bet this year!

MLB Betting Pick of the Day: Best Baseball Pick Today 6/8/21
San Francisco Giants @ Texas Rangers (8:05 p.m. ET)
- Probable Pitchers: LHP Alex Wood (SFG) vs. RHP Jordan Lyles (TEX)
Giants to win first five innings (-135)
Wager: 1.35 units
The Texas Rangers are 23-38 and have the third-worst record in baseball this year. They’ve lost 11 of their last 12 games and have allowed twice as many runs as they’ve scored in June. They’ve also been one of the worst teams in baseball against lefties, ranking 25th in wRC+ (87) versus southpaws.
That doesn’t bode well for their matchup against Alex Wood, who’s 5-3 with a 3.48 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and a 3.5 K/BB ratio this year. He’s struggled over his last two starts, giving up 11 earned runs in 9 2/3 innings, but this is a prime bounce-back spot against a Rangers lineup averaging just 2.3 runs per game over its last 10 games.
The Giants, on the other hand, enter play on Tuesday with MLB’s best record. They’ve won nine of their last 12 and have been excellent on the road this year, where they’re 19-13 and have a +48 run differential.
They’ll look to continue their winning ways against Jordan Lyles, who allowed the most earned runs in the major leagues last year and holds a 5.75 ERA for 2021. Lyles has been pitching better lately but should have difficulty keeping San Francisco off the board, as the Giants rank third in the National League in runs scored and second in home runs. He’ll likely surrender at least one round-tripper, as he’s been taken deep 11 times in his 12 starts thus far.
Accordingly, San Francisco should be able to mount an early lead against Texas, especially if Wood returns to form and the Giants’ bats stay hot.
