Philadelphia Eagles 2021 Schedule, Changes and Outlook
Like it or not, the Eagles are rebuilding. Three years removed from a Super Bowl championship, the wheels have come off. And in the wake of a 4-11-1 campaign that led to the removals of Doug Pederson as head coach and Carson Wentz as the franchise quarterback, Philadelphia is facing a long road back to prominence.
Pederson’s replacement will be Nick Sirianni, the former offensive coordinator of the Indianapolis Colts. At quarterback, second-year signal caller Jalen Hurts is expected to open the 2021 season under center after a promising debut towards the end of last season. While Sirianni has yet to name his starter, I don’t think anyone really believes it will be Joe Flacco.
Those changes alone make the Eagles tough to predict for 2021, as no one knows how well those moving parts will click. Philadelphia also had significant turnover elsewhere on the roster, particularly at wide receiver where DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery were allowed to leave in free agency. The Eagles also took hits at in their secondary and moved on from longtime pass rusher Vinny Curry.
Shedding some of their veteran talent will open up playing time for their promising youngsters such as wideouts Jalen Reagor and DeVonta Smith. With a young quarterback and inexperienced wide receivers, however, Philadelphia could experience some growing pains in 2021. Third-year running back Miles Sanders will lead the backfield again after a solid but injury-shortened 2020.
Despite young talent on both sides of the ball, the Eagles don’t appear ready to take advantage of their winnable division or a relatively easy schedule. Their priority this season is to figure out if Hurts can be the long-term solution at quarterback. If not, it’ll be back to the drawing board.
Eagles 2021 Win Total Bet Pick
Eagles To Win Under 6.5 Games in 2021-2022 NFL Season (+125)
Even with the extra game on the schedule this year, I’m still taking the under here. This rebuild is going to take some time, especially since Sirianni doesn’t have any head coaching experience yet. The Eagles have put some promising pieces in place, but 2021 is going to be a developmental year that results in more losses than wins.
