George Kittle 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Kittle was unable to avoid the injury bug that ravaged the San Francisco 49ers’ roster last season. He missed two games early in the year with a knee injury, then was sidelined for six more with a broken bone in his foot. While he was productive when healthy, his eight games played were the fewest of his career.

The good news for Kittle is that he still played well after returning from both injuries, so he should be back to normal after a full offseason to recover. If you projected his 2020 numbers over a full season, he would’ve ended the year as one of the NFL’s top tight ends again, so his talent hasn’t gone anywhere.

The biggest unknown for Kittle this year is who will be under center for the 49ers. While Kittle has established himself as one of Jimmy Garoppolo‘s top targets, Garoppolo could be replaced by Trey Lance at some point this year. The third overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft has a higher ceiling than Garoppolo, but his lack of experience could negatively impact Kittle’s performance if he struggles.

That said, Kittle should finish the year as a top-5 fantasy tight end regardless of who plays quarterback for San Francisco. As long as he’s on the field, he’ll continue to soak up targets and yards as the offense’s security blanket. Even with the recent emergences of Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, Kittle is a virtual lock for over 100 targets, 80-plus receptions, and more than 1,000 receiving yards, giving him an excellent floor.

As for his ceiling, Kittle’s yards-after-catch ability and tremendous speed have helped him compile 52 catches of 20-plus yards in 53 career games. If he’s truly back to 100 percent in 2021, he could be in line for even more splash plays with defenses also having to cover Samuel and Aiyuk, especially if Kyle Shanahan can unlock Lance’s full potential.

George Kittle 2021 Fantasy Football Draft Value (PPR)

When healthy, Kittle is still one of the best tight ends in fantasy football and is being drafted as such. He’s currently going in the third rounds of fantasy drafts as the third TE off the board after Travis Kelce and Darren Waller, which is right around where he was drafted last year. While he’s a bit tougher to predict this year, Kittle’s elite skills remain intact and should carry him to another dominant fantasy campaign.
