DeAndre Hopkins 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook
Hopkins’ first season with the Arizona Cardinals was a smashing success last year. Despite not having much time to learn Arizona’s offense during the offseason due to Covid-19, Hopkins quickly established himself as Kyler Murray‘s top target. The results were spectacular, as Hopkins played every game and finished with the second-most receptions (115) and third-most receiving yards (1,407) in the NFL. The only downside was that all those catches and yards only yielded six touchdowns — Hopkins’ lowest total since 2016.
Look for Hopkins to get more red-zone targets this year, however, especially if Murray comes back healthy after a shoulder injury hampered his second-half production last year. Hopkins will also benefit from an improved supporting cast that now features A.J. Green and James Connor. With opposing defenses being forced to respect Arizona’s ground game and pay additional attention to Green and Christian Kirk, Hopkins should be able to find more open looks downfield.
After a year of establishing chemistry with Murray, Hopkins could even see his numbers improve during his second year in the desert. Given his already incredible volume and durability, the 29-year-old has the potential to finish the season as fantasy’s No. 1 wide receiver if he can find the end zone a few more times.
DeAndre Hopkins 2021 Fantasy Football Draft Value (PPR)
Hopkins is currently going towards the end of the first round and beginning of the second round in most fantasy drafts. Some are worried that the arrival of A.J. Green will cut into Hopkins’ workload, but Green isn’t the player he used to be and is more of a decoy at this stage in his career. Hopkins is still the alpha WR1 in Arizona and should finish as a top-five fantasy wideout with over 100 catches, 1,500 yards, and around 10 touchdowns.
