Week 13 Fantasy Baseball Closers: Depth Chart News, Saves Tips & Bullpen Report
Philadelphia Phillies
- Closer: Hector Neris
- Backups: Jose Alvarado, Sean Coonrod, Archie Bradley
Phillies closer Hector Neris is in hot water. He has been … fine on the season as a whole, but given the recent stretch of blown saves, he has cause for concern. Neris has now blown 5 of 15 save opportunities and the team is meandering but competitive in a weak NL East.
There is a chance that Philly has a plan to flip him at the 2021 MLB trade deadline, which would make keeping him in the role for the time being reasonable but if I had to bet, they probably wouldn’t recoup much value, or at least, more than keeping him on the roster to compete would.
Go grab Jose Alvarado and see how the next few games play out.

Kansas City Royals
- Closer: Greg Holland
- Backups: Josh Staumont, Kyle Zimmer, Scott Barlow
Despite Josh Staumont returning from IL recently, the Royals have decided to flip back to initial closer Greg Holland. Holland was presumed to have the job this season until a stretch of rough outings relegated him to middle relief and then a stint on COVID-IL threw things off after getting things going.
Holland is competent enough to hold the job as Staumont was skating on thin ice when in charge of the role. Since April 26th, Holland has a 3.00 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 3.84 xFIP, 27.3% K, and just 10.2% BB (much lower than his first few weeks).
If Holland is available in your fantasy baseball leagues, take a waiver-wire flier on him sticking until the trade deadline.

- New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman has been horrible over the past two weeks. He has now suffered 3 blow-ups and experienced a decrease in strikeouts with an increase in walks. While this may be an aberration as just simple regression from his insane sub-0.50 ERA start, there is also the crackdown on sticky stuff going on, which may be coincidental, but you never know. His effectiveness moving forward is something to keep an eye on.
- Who the hell is closing for the Arizona Diamondbacks? Please, this is a serious inquiry I do not know. The D-Backs have not had a “traditional" save since May 10!
