MLB Betting Pick of the Day: Best Baseball Pick Today 6/21/21

Chicago White Sox @ Pittsburgh Pirates (7:05 p.m. ET)

Over 3.5 runs scored by the White Sox (-160)

Wager: 1.60 units

At the beginning of the season, the White Sox destroyed lefties. If you didn’t take the White Sox against a lefty earlier in the season, you lost out on a lot of money.

But since the hot stretch, injuries have derailed the team, and the Pale Hose haven’t been nearly as good against lefties as of late.

That’s about to change tonight. Tyler Anderson is on the mound for the Pirates. He’s a left-handed pitcher who has struggled recently with an XFIP of 5.55 in the last 30 days. Anderson has struck out just under 15 percent of batters and is getting only 38.2 percent of ground balls.

In his last 52 plate appearances against righties, Anderson has allowed a wOBA of .363 and an ISO of .286. The lefty has struggled against righties this season.

The White Sox will be expected to have eight right-handed batters in the lineup along with Giolito. Remember, this is an inter-league match-up with Pittsburgh as the home team so there is no designated hitter.

In the last 30 days, Jose Abreu, Yasmani Grandal, and Andrew Vaughn have been getting on base and hitting for high power in the middle of the lineup against lefties. The team is striking out 26.3 percent of the time against lefties in the last 30 days, but Anderson isn’t blowing anyone away, again, striking out only 14.7 percent of batters.

Chicago is 43-29 for a reason. They’re scoring early in games and holding onto the lead. Anderson allowed 10 hits and six runs against the Nationals in his last outing. Before that, he had been escaping damage and had a batting average of balls in play sitting below .220.

In June, Anderson has allowed 21 hits in 17.1 innings with 19 more flyballs than groundballs along with just 10 strikeouts. If he continues putting up those types of numbers, the White Sox should have no trouble scoring four runs before Anderson leaves the game.

Lastly, the White Sox will have a full nine innings to get four runs. The juice is a bit high for this play, but it won’t matter when it wins.
