Gonzaga (28-5) comes into the tournament as the No. 3 seed in the West region, set to take on 14th-seeded Grand Canyon (24-11) in the first round.

The Bulldogs remain contenders for the national championship, but they’re no longer one of the favorites as they were in the last three seasons.

With that said, this is still a formidable group led by senior forward Drew Timme, who recently became the school’s all-time scoring leader.

Read on for my Gonzaga vs Grand Canyon prediction and best bets.

Gonzaga vs Grand Canyon Prediction

Gonzaga 91, Grand Canyon 66

Gonzaga boasts the No. 1 offense in the nation, per Pomeroy’s rankings. This is a team that has eclipsed 90 points 12 times this season.

Grand Canyon (198th in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency) is going to have their hands full against the Bulldogs here.

Gonzaga vs Grand Canyon Best Bets

Gonzaga -15.5 (-110) | DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

It can feel uncomfortable to lay such a high number, especially with the risk that a team pulls their starters while holding a large lead, resulting in a failure to cover the point spread.

However, this is a situation where we have a significant mismatch between Gonzaga’s offense (first) against Grand Canyon’s defense (198th).

This game has blowout written all over it, so look for the Bulldogs to start off their 2023 March Madness with a bang.

Gonzaga: Over 87.5 Total Points (-105) | DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

Here we have a wager that can act as insurance for our Gonzaga -15.5 pick. If the Bulldogs fail to win by 16 or more points, we can aim for the 87.5-point team total. This could protect us against a potential backdoor cover.

There’s a good chance that the Bulldogs eclipse this number because it’s right at their seasonal average of 87.5 points per game. And again, Grand Canyon ranks 198th on defense (per KenPom). I’m feeling good about the Over here.

Gonzaga vs Grand Canyon SGP (-135) | DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

  • Gonzaga -8.5 (-280)
  • Gonzaga: Over 82.5 Total Points (-225)

Gonzaga vs Grand Canyon SGP

We’ll take a more favorable number on the point spread (Gonzaga -8.5) and team total (82.5 points) to protect us in case either of our straight wagers fall short.
