After a considerable wait, a trio of the best QBs in the 2022 NFL Draft were taken in the third round, with Matt Corral from Ole Miss being the third passer picked in the round.
When Corral was still lingering on the board, the Carolina Panthers elected to trade up in an attempt to fix their glaring QB problem, which has dogged them for several seasons.
Given the lack of quality alternatives at the NFL level (Sam Darnold, Jimmy Garoppolo, etc.), we may look back and consider Carolina fortunate to have nabbed Corral at 86th overall.
Matt Corral NFL Draft Outlook
It wouldn’t be surprising to see Corral emerge as the best pure quarterback in this year’s class.
Malik Willis has more fantasy promise, but Corral has the rest of the package to be a capable NFL starter. He is a poised passer who will perform well with talent around him.

Going to a team where he can have a safety valve such as Christian McCaffrey and a dependable target like D.J. Moore can only help accelerate Corral’s progress as an NFL player.
Corral will be a solid NFL starter with the right supporting cast, which he may have right away with the Panthers.
Matt Corral Fantasy Football QB Tips
Corral is mobile, makes good reads, and throws a quality deep ball. He will be patient to let the right reads develop and puts good touch on his throws.
But Corral could prove to be a better real-life player than a fantasy performer. There are concerns about turnovers and his durability, and he doesn’t project to be an explosive passer.
The Panthers may see Corral leap past Darnold quickly to start, but he likely won’t be anything more than a top-20 fantasy quarterback.
