NBA Week 14 Betting Stats

NBA BETTING TRENDS

1. The Suns have covered in seven-straight road games

It’s hard to believe, but the Phoenix Suns are currently the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. In fact, they are just two games back from the Utah Jazz for the No. 1 seed. The Suns have been incredible this season, partly due to their ability to take care of business on the road. On the season, they are 14-5 straight up in their 19 road games, which is the best winning percentage in the NBA for an away team (73.7 percent).

For bettors, they’ve been fantastic as a road team against the spread. Phoenix has now covered in seven-straight road contests. On the year, they are 14-5 ATS as well, which is the second-best cover percentage in the league. They will take on the Magic in Orlando on Wednesday and the Suns are an 8-point favorite. While that may seem high, it’s hard to doubt this team on the road this season.

2. The Jazz have the second-best record against the spread this season

Speaking of the Jazz, they still hold the best record in the NBA at 31-11. By now, we shouldn’t be surprised by just how good this Utah team. And yet, they continue to outperform expectations. According to Team Rankings, the Jazz have the second-best record against the spread this year. A big reason why is because of how dominant they’ve been at home this season. Utah is 16-2 straight up this season at the Vivint Smart Home Arena and is 14-4 against the spread. No team in the NBA has a better coverage percentage on their home court than the Jazz does.

The Jazz will arguably get their greatest challenge of the season on Wednesday night as they will host the Brooklyn Nets. It’s worth noting that Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant will miss this contest, but can the Jazz cover the 8.5 point spread here? History shows the answer is probably yes.

3. The Cavaliers cover the spread in just 25 percent of their road games

The 2020-2021 season has been a tough one for the Cleveland Cavaliers. They’ve dealt with a ton of injuries and they currently sit at 11 games behind .500 with the fourth-worst record in the conference. Unfortunately, they’ve been an easy team to fade this season, especially on the road. Cleveland has covered in just 25 percent of their road games (5-15) this season. Coincidently, they’ve got the same winning percentage away from home as well.

Cleveland will be on the road on Wednesday, taking on the Chicago Bulls at the United Center. The Cavs have been in a real slump as of late, failing to cover the spread on the road in 14 of their last 16 road games. The Bulls are a 5.5 point favorite in this game and seem like an easy bet here at home against the Cavs.

4. The Nuggets are 10-6 ATS as a road favorite this season

By now, everyone knows how good of a home team the Nuggets can be. But what has been the most surprising part of the Nuggets game this season has been their ability to win and cover on the road. On the year, they are 14-8 straight up in road games. But more impressively, they are 10-6 against the spread when they are road favorites. When comparing them to teams who have been favored on the road five or more times this season, they have the second-best winning percentage (62.5 percent) behind only the Phoenix Suns (64.3 percent).

Denver will be on the road again on Wednesday night, taking on the Toronto Raptors. And as you might expect, the Nuggets are (slightly) favored in this contest. Given that they’ve won six-straight road games and have done a phenomenal job against the spread in those contests don’t be surprised if they cover again here against the 17-26 Raptors.

5. Boston has failed to cover the spread in nine of their last ten games

The Boston Celtics remain an incredibly frustrating team to watch on a night-to-night basis. Despite all of their talent, they are currently 21-22 on the season and they have now lost four of their last five games. Their last two wins have come against the Magic and Rockets, who are among the NBA’s two worst teams.

Boston has been dreadful against the spread as of late as they have now failed to cover in nine of their last ten games. On the season, Boston is just 7-16 against the spread on the road this season, which is the second-worst coverage percentage behind only the previously mentioned Cavs. Boston could be in trouble once again on Wednesday night as they will take on the Bucks in Milwaukee. As of this posting, the Bucks are 5-point favorites. But from what we’ve seen recently from the Celtics, that line should be far higher.
