Giants Sign Kenny Golladay: 2021 Betting & Fantasy Football Outlook For New York’s Free-Agent Addition

Giants Sign Kenny Golladay: The New York Giants signed free agent wide receiver Kenny Golladay to a four-year, $72 million deal that could go up to $76 million, with $40 million in guaranteed money.

Giants Sign Kenny Golladay

The Giants signed Golladay to add a legitimate number-one wide receiver to a skills group that includes Saquon BarkleyDarius SlaytonSterling Shepard, and Evan Engram. This is a talented player coming off an injury-plagued season.

This move will help the team determine whether Daniel Jones is the answer at quarterback. Golladay should do wonders for Jones’s development as a passer. Jones throws a good deep ball and Golladay has the ability to make big plays downfield as well as contested catches, so this looks like a great fit.

Golladay caught 20-of-32 targets for 338 yards and two touchdowns in only five games for the Lions last season. In 2019, he broke out for 65 receptions, 1,190 yards, and 11 touchdowns on 116 targets in 16 games. He has every opportunity to reach or even surpass those totals as the new number one target for the Giants.

The Giants have the lowest odds to win the division despite this significant upgrade, making them a solid value here. This is a team that added Golladay to a strong group of pass-catchers and will get Barkley back from injury. Jones has a great chance to break out in this underrated offense.

The Cowboys are the favorites with Dak Prescott back, and Washington has improved with their signings of Ryan FitzpatrickCurtis Samuel, and William Jackson. We should also see the Eagles get better because of their high draft capital, but the Giants can match up with any team in this division.

Last year, the Giants defense really started to improve as the season progressed, allowing 25 points or less in 9 of their last 11 games.  They have some talent up here with defensive end Leonard Williams as well as defensive backs James Bradberry and Jabrill Peppers. We could see this unit get even better in 2021 with continuity on the coaching staff. Head coach Joe Judge has this team playing hard each week.

If Jones can take the next step at quarterback, a division title is in this team’s range of outcomes, making them a solid value at +450.

Kenny Golladay 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

We can give Golladay a mulligan for last season because it was cut short after only five games due to a hip injury. In 2019, Golladay finished as WR12 in PPR points per game in a year where he only put up 116 targets. We can expect him to eclipse that total as the clear-cut number-one option for the Giants. Golladay also put up 10.26 yards per target that season, ranking fourth behind Chris GodwinStefon Diggs, and A.J. Brown among wide receivers with at least 80 targets.

Jones will benefit the most from Golladay’s arrival. We have seen how impactful a top wide receiver can be for a young quarterback’s development in recent years. Diggs did wonders for Josh Allen and DeAndre Hopkins did the same for Kyler Murray. We also saw Prescott improve with Amari Cooper as well as Mitchell Trubisky with Allen Robinson and Carson Wentz with Alshon Jeffery.

I’d expect Jones to put up top-15 QB production in 2021.

I would consider Golladay an upside WR2 in season-long fantasy football this year. I wouldn’t say this landing spot is an upgrade for him, but it definitely allows him to maintain his 2019 fantasy value. Golladay should be able to set a career-high in targets given the hefty contract he signed to play with the Giants. Jones attempted 32 passes per game last season and we saw how offensive coordinator Jason Garrett force-fed Amari Cooper once he was dealt to Dallas while Garrett was the head coach. Expect 120+ targets for Golladay.
