Harper is entering his age-28 season, coming off a year where he slashed .268/.420/.542 with 13 home runs and eight stolen bases in 244 plate appearances. He posted an impressive 20.1 BB%, which was higher than his 17.6 K%, demonstrating his elite plate discipline. Harper crushed the baseball, putting up 93rd percentile exit velocity. His expected statistics were much better than his actual numbers, with a .308 xBA and .656 xSLG.

We have seen Harper’s ceiling back in 2015, when he slashed .330/.460/.649 with 42 home runs in 654 plate appearances, winning the NL MVP as a 22-year-old. The Phillies should be an improved team in 2021. If they’re able to make the playoffs, Harper will be in contention for MVP, making the +1600 odds a terrific value.

Nola was dominant in the shortened season, posting a career-high 33.2 K% and 25.3 K-BB% with 3.28 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 71.1 innings. He projects as one of the few starting pitchers who will eclipse 180 innings in 2021, as teams try to limit workloads following the shortened season. This should give him an opportunity to set himself apart from the other pitchers who have limited volume. Nola remains one of the best pitchers in the NL, so getting him at +1200 is a solid value.

The Phillies should remain as a contending team in 2021 despite coming off a disappointing season where they missed the playoffs. This is a team stacked with talent that has had a quietly impressive offseason, putting them in a good position to bounce back.

The offense is led by Harper, but it also has young talent like third baseman Alec Bohm along with star catcher J.T. Realmuto mixed with solid veterans like Rhys Hoskins, Andrew McCutchen and Didi Gregorius. The Phillies ranked 9th in wRC+ in 2020 and should remain one of the better offenses in baseball.

The rotation is anchored by Cy Young candidate Nola along with innings-eater Zach Wheeler and potential breakout Zach Eflin. If top prospect Spencer Howard is able to become more comfortable in the big leagues in Year 2, this has the makings of an underrated rotation.

The bullpen was putrid last season, ranking 30th in MLB with a 7.06 ERA, but there are reasons for optimism in 2021. The team added Jose AlvaradoArchie Bradley and Brandon Kintzler to shore up its biggest weakness. Each of these relievers has closing experience, giving the Phillies some solid depth in the back-end of their bullpen. Expect a much better unit in 2021, allowing the Phillies to contend for a playoff spot and perhaps a division title.
