2021 Nationals Win Total

Over/Under 84.5 wins (BetMGM)

The Washington Nationals’ roster now stands as a far cry from the one that won the World Series in 2019, but they still have the capability to make some noise in 2021. The division around them is strengthening with the New York Mets making plenty of moves to compete and the Atlanta Braves consistently looming. Trending down is not an ideal situation in any division, but it’s a little direr in a tough division like the National League East.

The Nationals have Juan Soto in the middle of their offense to go along with a young stud like Trea Turner. That will play. There isn’t a ton to love outside of Soto and Turner for the Nationals, but their off-season moves to acquire first baseman Josh Bell from the Pittsburgh Pirates and their signing of outfielder Kyle Schwarber could provide some much-needed thump.

Washington will likely wind up in the mix for a Wild Card appearance and not much else this season. Their pitching can carry them as it did in 2019 if Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg can stay healthy and Patrick Corbin‘s velocity can get back to normal levels. That’s a tall task, though.

As mentioned, the Nationals made the moves to add Bell and Schwarber to their core, but they also added one of the most sought-after relievers on the market in southpaw Brad Hand. The Nationals have found their Achilles’ heel to be their bullpen in the past and Hand could help rectify those issues.

2021 Nationals Win Total Bet

Under 84.5 wins (-110)

I do not see the Nationals finishing above .500 in a division so deep.

When the Mets and Braves can both challenge for 90-95 wins apiece, the Phillies can win ballgames, and the Marlins are on the uptrend, things will be made difficult on the Nats.

Cash the under on the Nationals as it’s far more likely they are an injury-plagued dumpster fire by year’s end than a success story.
