Joey Gallo To Lead MLB In Home Runs For 2021
Bet $20, Payout $240
Joey Gallo has as much raw power as any hitter in baseball. He eclipsed the 40 home run mark in his last two full seasons back in 2017 and 2018. He was also on pace to easily go over that number back in 2019, where he had 22 home runs in only 297 plate appearances. This is a hitter who is consistently at the top of Statcast leaderboards for exit velocity and barrels per plate appearance.
There is some risk with this bet because Globe Life Field, the new ballpark unveiled in 2020, has played more like a pitcher’s park. The good news is that Gallo crushes the ball, so it’s not like his home runs are barely clearing the fence, so the downgrade in ballpark should not play too much of a factor. The only way that I see this bet going under the number is if Gallo were to miss time due to injury.
Gallo is healthy entering the 2021 season, starting off his Spring Training with a bang by homering in each of his three games. The Rangers are a rebuilding team, so it’s not like we have to worry about Gallo being benched for a prolonged slump. There’s some upside for a trade later in the season, which could end up benefitting Gallo’s power upside. Gallo has a legitimate chance to lead the league in home runs.

Texas Rangers To Win Over 66.5 Games in 2021
Bet $20, Payout $37
The Rangers are clearly in rebuilding mode, shipping away veteran ace Lance Lynn and allowing innings-eater Mike Minor to walk in free agency. This is a team that projects to finish last in the AL West, but this total is simply too low.
This team has some intriguing pieces on offense, including outfielder Nick Solak and new additions Nate Lowe and David Dahl. Lowe is a slugging first baseman who will finally get everyday playing time, while Dahl is an injury-prone outfielder with power and speed.

There’s also speedster Leody Taveras and former top prospect Willie Calhoun. If these young pieces can show some growth, this could be an improved offense.
The rotation projects to be one of the worst in baseball with Lynn and Minor elsewhere, but they do have Dave Dunning (acquired in the Lynn trade), an intriguing young arm who posted a 24.6 K% in 34 innings last season.
We have also seen this organization help Lynn and Minor improve as pitchers, so perhaps they can do the same with Mike Foltyniewicz.
The bullpen put up a 4.63 ERA last season and it’s hard to project much improvement. Perhaps Jose LeClerc can re-discover his 2018 form.
There’s not much to like about this Rangers team aside from some pieces in their lineup, but 66.5 is such a low number. This team can go 72-90, which would likely be one of the worst records in MLB, and that would still comfortably eclipse this total.
