Zach Wilson is favored to be selected by the Jets because the team needs a quarterback. Even though Sam Darnold will be entering his age-24 season, he’ll be on the final year of his rookie deal. It would be prudent to move on from Darnold and start fresh with a new quarterback.
If the Jets decided to keep Darnold, they could go with left tackle Penei Sewell, giving the team a pair of dominant bookends with Sewell and 2020 first-rounder Mekhi Becton. Quarterback Justin Fields has a superior college track record to Wilson, while Trey Lance could be a longshot option if the team falls in love with his athleticism.
The Jets seem likely to go with Darnold’s replacement with this pick.

Best Bet: Zack Wilson (-115)
Wilson is the call here. His mobility and arm strength make him a terrific fit for the Kyle Shanahan offense brought to the Jets by new offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, brother of Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. Wilson has spoken publicly about his desire to play in a Shanahan scheme, while new head coach Robert Saleh worked with Shanahan, making a Zach Wilson No. 2 bet an obvious fit.

Fields had been the consensus QB2 throughout the college season, but Wilson appears to have narrowed the gap, with some teams preferring the BYU star.
