NHL Bets of the Day 10/25/21
Best Bet: Sabres +1.5 (-145) at BetMGM
Wager: 2 units
Despite losing their past two games, the Buffalo Sabres have looked solid to open the season. Their schedule was quite weak to start — they beat the Canucks, Canadiens, and Coyotes — but they still played the Bruins and Devils tough enough to keep me confident in them. Another important thing to note with Buffalo is that its two losses came on a back-to-back.
The Sabres will be playing for a third time in four nights, but the Lightning have looked vulnerable to start the season and have been hampered by injuries, most notably to star right winger Nikita Kucherov.
I’m backing the Sabres, who have provided an excellent defensive effort to begin the season, having only allowed ten goals through five games. Given that, and the fact that the Lightning have yet to win in regulation this season, I like the value on the Sabres against the spread.

Best Bet: Hurricanes Moneyline (-120) at BetMGM
Wager: 1 unit
I have already backed the Hurricanes (4-0-0) a few times this season, but I might like tonight’s spot more than any other. Carolina has gotten off to a tremendous start and the Toronto Maple Leafs (2-3-1) have failed to meet expectations early on.
Toronto has an uncertain goalie situation at the moment, which makes me even less confident in them. The Maple Leafs simply have not looked like the team that we have become accustomed to watching the past few seasons. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes look every bit the part of a legitimate contender, scoring 18 goals through four games while allowing just seven.
Back the team that has found its groove on both ends of the ice, which also happens to be a slight home favorite. That’s value.
Best Bet: Capitals/Senators Under 6.5 (-120) at BetMGM
Wager: 1 unit
The total surprises me a ton here. Only two the Capitals’ first five games have gone over 6.5 goals this season, while none of the Senators’ five matchups have gone over that total.
The Senators are a good enough hockey team to at least compete with the Capitals and control the pace at times. I’m expecting a tight, low-scoring game between the Caps and Senators here — a type of atmosphere that the Senators are used to.
I don’t think either of these teams is gifted enough offensively to hit this over, but the Senators play a slow-paced game that focuses on being solid defensively. That provides inherent value on the under, which is too high at 6.5 total goals.
