2021 NLDS Game 4 Predictions | Giants vs Dodgers Best Bets & Projections

Last Updated: Oct 12, 2021

After losing Game 2 in San Francisco, the Giants stole a game back against the Dodgers in Los Angeles in Game 3. Both offenses were non-existent, as the only scoring of the entire game came from an Evan Longoria solo home run. The wind at Dodger Stadium played an enormous role in the game on Monday, and the Dodgers and Giants both lost runs because of it.

Max Scherzer pitched like his typical self in Game 3, but there is not much you can do as a starting pitcher when your team doesn’t score a single run for you.

Alex Wood pitched quite well for the Giants, but only pitched about half the game before leaving it in the hands of the bullpen. Rising star Camilo Doval tossed two scoreless innings to pick up the save.

With an NLCS berth now up for grabs, will the Giants claim it or will the Dodgers even up the series? Let’s take a look at my NLDS Game 4 Giants vs Dodgers predictions and best bets.

Please note that all NLDS Game 4 odds and lines are current as of 10:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday, October 12.

Giants vs Dodgers Game 4 Predictions

The Giants will turn to Anthony DeSclafani (13-7, 3.17 ERA) as their starter for Game 4. San Francisco is not forced to make any shrewd moves with their pitching staff given that they have the Dodgers on the brink of elimination.

The Dodgers have yet to announce a starter, though it seems likely that Los Angeles will have second-year right-hander Tony Gonsolin (4-1, 3.23 ERA) on the mound at some point. He is expected to have a short leash in the game, as the Dodgers’ bullpen remains well-rested.

It is extremely difficult to gauge the state of both offenses at this juncture. The Dodgers have had the best offensive output in a single game to this point in the series, but have been shut out twice now.

The Giants have scored just 7 runs in total across the series, which is less than the Dodgers scored in Game 2. Still, the Giants hold the 2-1 lead behind their excellent pitching production that was just a tad better than the Dodgers in Games 1 and 3.

The Giants will be looking to clinch an NLCS berth, but the Dodgers will do everything they can to tie up this series. They have been in this position before, as recently as last season.

Giants vs Dodgers Game 4 Pick: Dodgers 4, Giants 2

Giants vs Dodgers Game 4 Best Bets

Best Bet: Dodgers Moneyline (-155) at BetMGM

The Giants are a fantastic ball club, but I never envisioned this series going any less than five games. The Dodgers have an equal chance of pummeling Anthony DeSclafani as the Giants do of beating up on Tony Gonsolin, but the Dodgers have the deeper offense.

I’m backing the Dodgers at home once again.

Best Bet: Under 8 Total Runs (-115) at BetMGM

The Under has hit comfortably in both Games 1 and 3. Game 2 seems to be somewhat of anomaly at this point, given the lack of combined offense in the other two games.

It is hard to believe that the Dodgers and Giants combined for just 5 runs in total across two games of play, but the pitching has been so good that it is now understandable.

I would recommend tracking the wind and its direction prior to placing action on this game. Southern California has been uncharacteristically windy as of late, and it played a key role in Game 3. If the wind direction is heading south or southeast, the Under becomes a firm best bet.
