2021 NLDS Game 2 Predictions | Dodgers vs Giants Best Bets & Projections

Last Updated: Oct 9, 2021

The Los Angeles Dodgers offense put up a donut against San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Logan Webb, who tossed 7.2 shutout innings while striking out ten. The Dodgers’ offense looked anemic and they will look to turn the tide in Game 2.

These two teams are arguably the best in the sport and this series is already shaping up to be a good one. After a tight battle for the NL West division title, a classic Los Angeles-San Francisco battle will ensue in the second game of the series.

Will the Giants take a 2-0 lead or will the Dodgers even the series heading back to Los Angeles? Let’s discuss my NLDS Game 2 Dodgers vs Giants predictions and best bets.

Please note that all NLDS Game 2 odds and lines are current as of 1 a.m. EST on Saturday, October 9.

Dodgers vs Giants Game 2 Predictions

After getting a solid outing from Walker Buehler in a losing cause in the first game, the Dodgers will turn to Julio Urias (20-3, 2.96 ERA) in Game 2. The Giants will be countering with Kevin Gausman (14-6, 2.81 ERA), who has become one of the biggest surprise stories of the 2021 season.

Urias already has extensive postseason experience on his big-league resume’, despite being just 25 years old. Since coming up to MLB at the age of 19, Urias has made 18 playoff appearances, sporting a sparkling 2.79 ERA. Urias put the finishing touches on the Dodgers’ 2020 World Series win.

Urias made a total of five starts against the Giants during the regular season, pitching 29.1 innings while allowing 11 earned runs. These stats are largely inflated as Urias allowed six runs to the Giants in May while he was dealing with a nagging injury. In his three starts since, he has not allowed more than two runs to San Francisco.

Gausman, similar to a lot of other players on the San Francisco roster, was not expected to be pitching in Game 2 of the NLDS for the winningest team in the league. Frankly, he had no outside expectations at all. Still, he managed to emerge as one of the league’s best starters and will look to continue the ride in Game 2.

Gausman pitched three times against the Dodgers in 2021, amassing 14 innings while allowing five earned runs in total. In his most recent start against Los Angeles, he only lasted three innings so it will be interesting to see how he recovers in a playoff setting.

The Dodgers have the pitching advantage in this one, but their bats have gone ice cold at the wrong time. I expect the Giants to step on the gas and take Game 2 in front of their home crowd.

Dodgers vs Giants Game 2 Pick: Giants 5, Dodgers 3

Dodgers vs Giants Game 2 Best Bets

Best Bet: Giants Moneyline (-111) at Caesars

As previously mentioned, I believe the Giants are a great value on the moneyline in this one. Playing in front of your home crowd with all of the momentum swinging in your direction is always a good situation to be in. Gausman and Urias are both excellent pitchers, but only one of them has had a dud start against each other’s teams and that is Urias.

Back the Giants in this Game 2 matchup that is poised to be an all-out battle between two rivals.

Best Bet: Under 7.5 (-120) at Caesars

After backing the under in Game 1 of this series, I’m taking it again for Game 2. The Giants were able to string together four runs in Game 1, all via the home run, and Urias allowed less than a home run per nine innings in 2021.

This likely means that the Giants will have to put the ball in play in Game 2 as opposed to taking a predominantly power-driven approach. Gausman was excellent in regard to run prevention this season and it’s easy to envision him continuing that trend in Game 2 of the series.

Back the Under with the Dodgers’ bats seemingly on ice and the Giants checkered history against Urias.
