Texans vs Browns Predictions Week 2 – NFL Pick of the Day

Last Updated: Sep 17, 2021

The Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns highlight one of the most lopsided matchups on the Week 2 slate, with the Browns looking to steamroll Houston after a close loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1.

While the Houston Texans won in Week 1, it must be understood that they played the Jaguars, one of the fellow worst teams in the league. Houston will also be on the road this week.

Houston cruised to an easy victory in Week 1 by a score of 37-21 with Tyrod Taylor playing well above expectation and Brandin Cooks going off for 132 receiving yards. The defense played well against the inexperienced offensive unit behind Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, but I would not expect that to be a trend.

It’s weird to say that the Browns played better than the Texans in Week 1 considering the Texans won and the Browns didn’t, but it’s true. The Browns drew the toughest Week 1 matchup in the league in Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs and still kept it close.

The Browns’ offense has never been in question, as they received huge production from Nick Chubb (83 yards, 2 TDs) and Jarvis Landry (84 combined yards, rush TD). Baker Mayfield did not throw for a touchdown in the game despite leading his team to 29 points.

With that being said, let’s take a look at The Game Day’s picks for the Houston Texans vs Cleveland Browns in the NFL pick of the day series.

Best Bet: Cleveland Browns -13 (-105) at DraftKings

Texans vs Browns Prediction

As I have hinted at already, I believe this game will result in a downright slaughter, which is reflected in the NFL gameday odds. The Browns simply outmatch the Houston Texans in more ways than one and I fully expect Nick Chubb to run circles around the Texans’ run defense.

Baker Mayfield will have a better showing in Week 2 and will lead the Browns to a sizable victory in a medium-scoring affair. The Browns’ offensive line will outpace the Texans’ front seven with ease.

Betting Pick: Browns 44, Texans 10

Kareem Hunt, RB, Cleveland Browns

Look for Kareem Hunt and Cleveland’s other backs to rush with ease against the Houston Texans in Week 2.

Texans vs Browns Best Bets

Let’s take a look at a few of our Best Bets for this Houston-Cleveland matchup. Lines and odds are courtesy of BetMGM and DraftKings.

Best Bet: Cleveland Browns -13 (-105) at DraftKings

The Cleveland Browns draw a heavy line in this one, and while I don’t recommend double-digit spreads on favorites very often, I have no problem making an exception here. It is unsurprising that the spread is this large, all things considered, but given my final score prediction above, you can figure out how I feel about it.

The Browns should score early and often in this one, leading to at least a two-touchdown victory.

Best Bet: Over 48 (-110) at BetMGM

I am going to go against another one of my principles here and recommend a bet on an over in a game that I am predicting a blowout. Normally blowouts result in low-scoring games from a combined total standpoint, but I do think the Texans’ offense is capable of helping this along despite my prediction that they score ten points in total.

There is upside here if the Texans can maintain their offensive level of play from Week 1, but even if they do not, I believe the Browns can get close to notching 48 points all by themselves.

Texans vs Browns Same Game Parlay Picks

Let’s take a look at our suggested same-game parlay picks with odds courtesy of DraftKings.

  • Over 48.5 (-110)
  • Browns -12.5 (-110)
  • Browns Team Total Over 30.5 (-110)

With three picks, this parlay stands at (+230) odds on DraftKings. Using all of the bet picks we have already discussed and analyzed thoroughly in addition to the over on the Browns team total, this payout would be excellent all things considered.

DraftKings currently has the best odds on their totals and moneyline bets for this matchup at the moment, so I would recommend utilizing their same-game parlay option.
