MLB Props of the Day: Best Baseball Props Today 9/8/21

Triston McKenzie, SP, Cleveland Indians vs. Minnesota Twins (6:10 p.m. ET)

After struggling for much of the season, Triston McKenzie has turned things around over his last five starts with a 1.85 ERA, 0.50 WHIP, and 34:3 K/BB ratio over 34 innings. McKenzie’s stuff has always been electric, but control issues were holding him back. The 24-year-old rookie appears to have figured things out and has the makings of a top-line pitcher.

The Twins are striking out 24.8% of the time over their last 15 games while slashing .228/.298/.391 and averaging 3.7 runs per game. Against right-handed pitchers, they have been middle-of-the-pack offensively over the last 30 days as well.

I have McKenzie pegged for six strikeouts tonight, which will put him over his posted prop of 5.5 for the fourth consecutive outing. There is not a huge ceiling for him in this matchup, but the floor is extremely high, making this one of our best MLB bets today.

Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-167)

Frankie Montas, SP, Oakland Athletics vs. Chicago White Sox (9:40 p.m. ET)

The Oakland A’s are currently -180 favorites at home against the Chicago White Sox with a total of 8.5, which is reflected in our MLB gameday odds. Those are favorable conditions for a pitcher going over his strikeout prop. Frankie Montas has averaged 7.9 strikeouts over his last 10 starts, which gives a lot of cushion on his 6.5 strikeout prop and makes him one of our top MLB picks of the day.

The White Sox do not strike out a ton, as they have a 20.7% strikeout rate over the last 30 days, but their home/road splits are 15.7% vs. 25.0%. Montas has a 26.7% strikeout rate for the season, but it’s 35.7% over his last 10 starts. Much like McKenzie, I think we have a great floor here with Montas being able to hit his posted prop of 6.5, which he’s done seven times over his last 10 outings.

Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-125)

Wager: 1 unit
