MLB Betting Pick of the Day: Best Baseball Pick Today 8/16/21
Baltimore Orioles @ Tampa Bay Rays (7:10 p.m. ET)

The Baltimore Orioles’ pitching staff is in shambles, allowing 9.5 runs per game during their current 11-game losing streak. They’ve also yielded at least five runs in 12 of their 13 games this month and have the worst ERA (5.79) in baseball this year, getting beat up on a consistent basis.
That does not bode well for their road matchup tonight with the first-place Tampa Bay Rays, who currently lead them by a whopping 32 games in the AL East standings. Despite dropping their last two games against the Minnesota Twins, the Rays are still averaging a healthy 6.2 runs per game in August. They’ve also destroyed the Orioles in head-to-head play this year, going 11-1 while averaging 7.8 runs per game.
Tampa Bay is in a prime spot to bounce back and score some runs against Matt Harvey, who’s 6-11 with a 6.10 ERA and 1.56 WHIP this year. He’s pitched well in the second half but recorded only five outs in his lone start against the Rays this year, getting lit up for six runs on seven hits (including two homers) in his shortest outing of the season.
Despite his recent success, Harvey still has a lackluster 5.33 xFIP and 5.6 K/9 rate over the last 30 days. He’s been getting lucky with a .232 BABIP, plus he’s coming off a mediocre outing against the Detroit Tigers in which he allowed three runs on eight hits and three walks in five innings.
Tampa Bay, on the other hand, has been red-hot against righties and will likely stack lefties against Harvey. Their projected lineup of seven lefties along with Randy Arozarena and Nelson Cruz has a .241 ISO and a .347 wOBA. They’re also walking 8.3 percent of the time and striking out less than 22 percent of the time.
Look for the Rays to get back on track at home against Harvey, who’s allowed at least four runs in 10 of his 23 starts this year. After that, they’ll just need to score one against Baltimore’s mediocre bullpen, making this a promising bet to kick off the week.
