Carolina Panthers 2021 Win Total Bet: Schedule, Changes, and Outlook

Another team with a QB change this offseason was Carolina. They are still trying to find their identity post-Cam Newton and have failed to do so with guys like Kyle Allen and Teddy Bridgewater. New starter Sam Darnold at least comes with draft pedigree and the hope of potential due to his age and miserable surroundings in New York. There will be a lot less pressure to perform in Carolina and competition at QB is minimal.

Aside from Darnold, the offense should be better than last year despite the loss of the versatile Curtis Samuel. They will be heading into year two of Joe Brady’s scheme with a hopefully better understanding. Christian McCaffrey should play more than 3 games and take the pressure off of Darnold, and Terrace Marshall will be a welcome WR3 option via this past draft.

On the defensive side of things, first-round pick Jaycee Horn gives Carolina a legitimate CB1 option opposite Donte Jackson. Carolina was above-average versus the pass 2 years prior with James Bradberry in town, and this replacement is long overdue. Free-agent LB additions Haason Reddick and Denzel Perryman bolster a position group that has struggled post-Keuchley. They were just bad overall defensively last year but with an extremely young corps that featured several rookies like Derrick Brown, Yetur Gross-Matos, Jeremy Chinn, and Bravion Roy.

The Panthers’ schedule is quite favorable, too, with matchups against the Jets, Texans, Eagles, Giants, and Falcons twice.

The market is not a fan of Sam Darnold and that’s fair, but there is much more talent on this team than any of his past Jets rosters. Darnold also has the benefit of Joe Brady, who made Joe Burrow look like a first-overall pick in their season together at LSU. The QB will not be tasked with carrying this roster, rather just not messing up and having plays set up for him just like Teddy had last year except with a healthy CMC.

Carolina has not won more than 7 games since 2017 with a healthy-ish Cam Newton, but the schedule is easy, and even in Week 18 verse the Super Bowl Champion Buccaneers, there is a chance Tampa’s starters are rested right before the playoffs. Keep pounding the over.
