For starters, we’ve got 10-15 mph winds blowing out to right in Chicago tonight, so you can give a bump to the bats right there. Furthermore, Ober has struggled to keep the ball in the yard, surrendering nine home runs in 33 innings this year. When you give up as many fly balls and line drives as he does (70.3% of batted balls), some are bound to leave the park.

Ober has also had trouble keeping runners off the bases, allowing 34 hits and 11 walks for a 1.36 WHIP. That bodes well for the White Sox, as their projected lineup has a .421 wOBA and a .280 ISO in the last 30 days. They’re only striking out 20.4 percent of the time and walking at a 12.1 percent clip, making them extra tough for opposing pitchers.

Accordingly, Chicago should be able to take advantage of a struggling Ober, who has a 5.45 ERA and a 5.57 FIP in his rookie season thus far. He’s yet to go past five innings in any of his eight starts and has allowed four or more earned runs in half of those outings, including three of his last four.

The White Sox are also plenty familiar with the 26-year-old righty, as they’ve already faced him three times this year. They’ve enjoyed considerable success at his expense, tagging him for nine earned runs and 11 hits in 12 1/3 innings.

The bet here is that Ober will struggle again against an offense that ranks top-3 in the American League in runs scored and OBP. To get three runs in five innings, Chicago just needs to get a couple of guys on base and hit a blast. With the wind blowing out, there’s a real possibility of that.
