I am usually not a fan of laying more than -130 in any baseball bet, but we have limited options on the board this morning. I also am very selective in betting under on strikeout props in this era of high K rates. But in this spot, we have German on the road against a strong Red Sox lineup, but more importantly, the game has a posted total of 10, and the Yankees are a -120 favorite. This tells us that the game is expected to be close, but higher scoring.
German has never exceeded more than 6 strikeouts in any start this year and has topped 5 in just 6 of 13 starts. He went 5.2 innings against the Red Sox at home; striking out only 3. He has also been a much different pitcher on the road vs. home. His ERA on the road is almost 2 runs higher since 2019 (4.91 vs. 3.11). His last two starts have only lasted 4.0 and 4.1 innings while allowing 11 earned runs.
What you hope for on an Under prop is that the pitcher gets knocked out early vs. hoping he goes 5 or 6 innings and I can see that tonight for German against the Red Sox.
Chris Paddack, SP, San Diego Padres vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (10:10 p.m. ET)
Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-120)
Wager: 2 units
Chris Paddack and the Padres opened a -265 favorite at home and the line has already jumped to -300 and is climbing. The Padres are on a seven-game winning streak with the Diamondbacks are 1-19 in their last 20 games, 3-27 in their last 30, and 7-43 in their last 50. There is a good chance this Diamondbacks lineup will be without Ketel Marte, Eduardo Escobar, and Carson Kelly.
Paddack has been on a good run over his last 4 starts with 32 strikeouts, 2 walks. He has given up some runs, but against this weak D-backs lineup tonight I have no concerns. The Diamondbacks struck out 11, 12, and 12 times in the three games against the Brewers. He should be able to work deep in the game and get at least 6 to 7 strikeouts.
