Euro 2020 Knockout Stage Outlook

It’s hard to analyze the Euro 2020 knockout stage without discussing the top teams like Italy, France, and Spain. Italy will enter the tournament on a 20-match winning streak and will be a tough draw for anyone who crosses paths with them.

France, the team that is getting the best odds to win the tournament as of right now, is still in the top tier.

Spain will also be sure to make their presence known in the remainder of this tournament.

A few teams are not getting as hard of a look as they should be. Portugal and Croatia are capable of upsetting the upper-echelon teams with their underappreciated depth.

England also figures to be a strong candidate to win it all, entering the early stages of the tournament with a new-look confidence that surely bought them the favor of oddsmakers.

The biggest and most heart-breaking storyline from the Euros so far has been the sudden cardiac arrest and collapse of Danish star Christian Eriksen. He has reportedly been doing a lot better but will be missed dearly by Denmark as they advance.

Euro 2020 Knockout: Key Matchups & Outlook

Some of the best teams in the tournament will also be the teams to have the toughest road to the final match. Portugal vs Belgium is a first-round match that will be a must-watch as they are very evenly matched, with a star vs star clash of Cristiano Ronaldo vs Kevin De Bruyne.

Italy will likely have an easy match against Austria but will then have to be challenged by one of the aforementioned teams. Tough.

France and Spain will likely both have tough roads, and there is a strong possibility of an upset by Luka Modric‘s Croatia in Round 1 for Spain. If Spain can get past Croatia and France, they will win the tournament — mark it down.

Italy is an easy team to back considering they haven’t lost in quite some time, but I also like Belgium as one of the consensus best teams in Europe, Portugal, and Croatia’s well-coached attack.

Euro 2020 Final Prediction

Portugal over England

I’m going to go on the unconventional route here and back Portugal to win it all. This team is simply too good to have the odds they currently have attached to them, but it’s mostly because of their tough draw. I see them making their way through regardless. England is a very capable team and quite easily the best team in the bottom half of the bracket, in my opinion, especially with a scoring group of Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling clicking.

Euro 2020 Bet Picks

All odds are current as of Thursday, June 24 and are courtesy of BetMGM.

Portugal to win Euro 2020 tournament (+1100)

There is significant value to be had here on Portugal. It is extremely difficult to ever count out a team that rosters both the legendary Ronaldo and Ruben Dias, the best center back in the world. (+1100) is simply too good to pass up here.

  • Also, Ronaldo (-135) looks like the clearer favorite for Top Scorer in the tournament, and if you bet Portugal to win the tournament, toss some coin on Ronaldo to carry the scoring table — which he currently leads with 5, 2 clear of second place.

England to win Euro 2020 tournament (+650)

While I do not believe England will win this tournament, I view this as a strong value play. England will have the easiest road to the final match of any team I ranked above them.

Italy to win Euro 2020 tournament (+550)

If you’re interested in riding the hot hand, I would be all over Italy. The odds at +550 are quite good and can likely be attributed to their top half placement in the bracket. Their draws will be consistently tough, though.
