Calvin Ridley 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook
After a pair of solid campaigns to begin his career, Ridley broke out in his third season last year, establishing career highs in virtually every category. With Julio Jones missing seven games because of injuries, Ridley often served as the Atlanta Falcons’ top receiving option in a pass-happy offense. Ridley’s target share increased dramatically as a result, jumping by 50 total targets compared to 2019 and helping him rack up 1,374 receiving yards — fifth-most in the NFL and 508 yards higher than his previous high.
That increased volume resulted in Ridley finishing as the fifth-best wide receiver in PPR formats. Following the trade of Jones this offseason, Ridley can be expected to maintain -if not improve — that level of volume in 2021 as the team’s undisputed No. 1 receiver. Atlanta didn’t make any moves in the offseason to replace Jones, so Ridley shouldn’t have too much competition for targets beyond first-round draft pick Kyle Pitts.
Ridley will remain the go-to option for Matt Ryan, who led the NFL in pass attempts last year and has topped the league in completions in each of the past two years. Given that the Falcons play in a dome and have a middling defense and running game, look for them to lean on their passing attack again this year, especially as they often find themselves playing from behind (18-30 over the past three years).
Accordingly, Ridley’s fantasy outlook remains exceptionally bright for 2021. He could very well finish as a top-5 receiver again, as he’ll likely end up with over 100 catches, 1,500 receiving yards, and double-digit touchdowns.
Calvin Ridley 2021 Fantasy Football Draft Value (PPR)
Ridley is poised for another monster year and has been climbing up draft boards since Jones was traded. He’s currently going late in the second round of preseason PPR drafts as the sixth receiver off the board. Given his upside, he’s probably worth taking even earlier than that, as he could finish 2021 as the top-scoring receiver in fantasy football.
