Kyler Murray 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook
Murray took a significant leap in production in 2020 when compared to his rookie season. He completed a higher percentage of passes (67.2% vs. 64.4%) while throwing for more yards (3,971 vs. 3,722) and touchdowns (26 vs. 20). He also improved on the ground, upping his rushing yards (819 vs. 544) and rushing touchdowns (11 vs. 4) while averaging more yards per carry (6.16 vs. 5.85). The second-year pro not only exceeded expectations but improved in all facets of his game despite not having a clear-cut WR2 option behind DeAndre Hopkins.
So this offseason, with Larry Fitzgerald possibly retiring, the Cardinals brought in two reinforcements to the wide receiver room. They signed 7-time Pro Bowl WR A.J. Green and selected Purdue WR Rondale Moore in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. The Cardinals are making it clear they want to surround Murray with as many weapons as possible to bolster his chance at \success.
In Kliff Kingsbury‘s second season as head coach in 2020, the Cardinals ran the third-most plays per game (67.7) compared to just the 21st-most in 2019 (62.5). Because the faster pace accounted for three more wins in 2020, expect much of the same from Kingsbury and the Cardinals in 2021. With a 17th game added to the NFL schedule, Murray has a chance to become the first quarterback in NFL history to pass for 4,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in a single season.
Kyler Murray 2021 Fantasy Football Draft Value
Entering his third NFL season, Murray finds himself surrounded by a number of explosive playmakers on offense. His elite rushing production combined with his ability to take the top off a defense through the air gives this dual-threat quarterback one of the highest floors of any quarterback in fantasy football. When all is said and done, expect Murray to finish as a top-5 quarterback this season with the upside to finish as the overall QB1 in 2021.
