D.J. Moore 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Moore will work with yet another new starting quarterback in 2021 after a one-year spin with the departed Teddy Bridgewater. As Moore’s 2020 numbers indicate, he developed a strong rapport with the veteran signal caller, establishing career-highs with 1,193 receiving yards, 18.1 yards per reception, and 10.1 yards per target.

It was certainly encouraging to see Moore get more looks downfield last season, although he’s still looking to become more of a red-zone presence with just 10 total touchdowns in his first three seasons. Moore now faces the prospect of acclimating to Sam Darnold, who already has a built-in comfort level with Robby Anderson from their time together with the New York Jets.

If head coach Matt Rhule and offensive coordinator Joe Brady continue to deploy Moore in a similar manner to last season, then there should be plenty of opportunities for Moore to rack up yards via chunk plays in the medium-to-deep passing windows. Anderson frequently filled the role of deep threat for Darnold in the Big Apple, but Brady used him as more of a short-area target last season. Offseason signee David Moore does bring a strong track record in the red zone, but it’s unlikely he vultures too much from Moore’s route tree.

Accordingly, Moore should post similar numbers to his 2019-2020 production in 2021. He’ll likely end up with around 70-80 catches, 1,100-1,200 receiving yards, and a handful of touchdowns, making him a solid WR2/WR3 in PPR formats.

D.J. Moore 2021 Fantasy Football Draft Value (PPR)

Moore is currently going in the middle of the sixth round of preseason fantasy drafts as the WR23, which feels about right. His floor is high enough to put him in the top 25-30 at the position, but without increased red-zone work his ceiling is limited to a low-end WR2. With Christian McCaffrey expected to get the lion’s share of Carolina’s goal-line touches and Anderson consuming much of Darnold’s passing looks, Moore lacks upside but remains a safe, volume-driven fantasy option.
