MLB Betting Props of the Day: Best Baseball Prop Picks Today 6/9/21
Casey Mize, Detroit Tigers vs. Seattle Mariners (7:10 p.m. ET)
Over 5.5 strikeouts (+115)

Casey Mize is starting to look like the pitcher who the Tigers drafted first overall in 2018. Over his last 4 starts, Mize has a 2.08 ERA with a 26:4 K/BB ratio in 26 innings. One of those starts was against these same Mariners back on May 17, when Mize logged a season-high 7 2/3 innings and struck out 7.
This Seattle lineup is awful once you get past the top four, and Mize should be able to carve it up again tonight at home. The Mariners are the second-worst team against right-handed pitchers on the road with a 27.7% strikeout rate since May 1. They’ve also struggled on the road in general lately, losing 11 of their last 15 away games.
The Tigers are favored to win at home against Chris Flexen, so Mize should be working with a lead and go deep into the game again. My projections have Mize at 6.5 strikeouts tonight, and I love getting some plus juice on the over.
Nathan Eovaldi, Boston Red Sox vs. Houston Astros (7:10 p.m. ET)
Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-115)

In this day and age of huge strikeout percentages, it’s very hard to bet the under. But when it involves the Astros — who have been MLB’s toughest team to strike out this year (by a lot) — you have to consider it.
There are two things I look for when taking an under K prop. The first is that the opposing team has to be one of the hardest teams to punch out, which the Astros are. The second is that I want a pitcher who does not go deep into games and has a subpar strikeout rate.
Well, Nathan Eovaldi has gone less than 6 innings in 7 of his 12 starts this year. He also hasn’t been missing a ton of bats, averaging 5.4 strikeouts per outing.
Houston’s lineup is pretty much at full strength and has owned Boston this season, including last night in a 7-1 victory at Fenway Park. I think Eovaldi has a tough time against this offense tonight and goes 5 innings or less, resulting in 4 or fewer strikeouts.
