MLB Betting Pick of the Day: Best Baseball Picks Today 6/4/21

Cleveland Indians @ Baltimore Orioles (7:05 p.m. ET)

Indians on the Money Line (-105)

Wager: 1.15 units

How many times will we see a team sitting at 30-24 on the year become a pick-em game against a team that’s 19-37 on the year?

It won’t happen often. The Baltimore Orioles have won two straight against the Minnesota Twins, and now oddsmakers think they’re back to their winning ways? Absolutely not.

Jean Carlos Mejia will get the first start of his career in the majors for the Indians. He started two games in Triple-A, posting a 2.00 ERA in nine innings pitched before getting called up to the Majors. For the Indians, he’s thrown five innings and allowed one hit, one walk while striking out seven and inducing five ground balls.

He hasn’t pitched over 2.1 innings in the MLB but is more than capable of going five innings dating back from his time in Triple-A. Mejia pitched in high leverage situations and didn’t allow any runs. He faced the Blue Jays in his last appearance and allowed no runs in 1.2 innings after the Indians starter, Sam Hentges, allowed four runs in 2.1 innings. His relief work basically propelled the Indians to a 6-5 win.

On the other hand, Keegan Akin has a 4.80 ERA on the year for the Orioles and a career 4.65 ERA dating back to last year. In addition, he’s had trouble against right-handed batters as a left-handed thrower. Meanwhile, the Indians will likely have seven right-handed batters in the lineup facing Akin that can do serious damage.

Detroit Tigers @ Chicago White Sox (8:10 p.m. ET)

Tigers Over 3.5 runs scored (+100)

Wager: 1 unit

You won’t see me wagering on the Detroit Tigers very many times this year. But there’s value with the Tigers tonight.

Dallas Keuchel will take the mound for the White Sox, and he’s been dreadful recently. Keuchel has allowed 16 runs in his last 28.2 innings, including 31 hits, five home runs, and just 14 strikeouts.

He’s not going to overpower you with strikeouts. He’s known for inducing a heavy dosage of ground balls. Keuchel had 61 grounders to just 37 fly balls in May and will look to continue doing that into June. However, he’s had trouble with this Tigers lineup before.

The Tigers will more than likely send out nine right-handed batters to go up against Keuchel, who has allowed seven home runs and 15 walks on the season from right-handed batters. He’s also allowed nine doubles and has just 21 strikeouts against righties.

Recently, the Tigers lineup has caught fire with the projected lineup averaging a .211 isolated power number and a .378 weighted on-base average against lefties. The Tigers also have limited strikeouts to lefties and walk 10.2 percent of the time in the last 30 days.

In 77 at-bats against the Tigers, Keuchel has allowed a .299 average and an on-base percentage of .365. He’s allowed 10 extra-base hits and eight walks with just 19 strikeouts. With a guaranteed nine innings, the Tigers will have a full game to reach four or more runs.
