January 9 NBA DFS Picks: Monkey Knife Fight

Last Updated: Jan 10, 2021

January 9 NBA DFS Picks: Monkey Knife Fight (MKF) combines elements of daily fantasy sports and traditional prop betting to offer a unique array of contests daily for a multitude of sports, making it a great opportunity for your 1/9/21 NBA DFS plays.

With NBA season in full swing, MKF enhances the enjoyment of the hardwood with exciting opportunities each night to win cash based on your knowledge of some of the league’s top players.

The GameDay breaks down two MKF contests daily that we feel have profit potential. With Saturday night offering plenty of big names, here’s a closer look at two opportunities involving four of the most offensively explosive players on the slate.

January 9 NBA DFS Picks: Monkey Knife Fight

Miami Heat at Washington Wizards

MKF Contest: More or Less (Pick 2/2 correctly to get 3x your buy-in)

Bradley Beal More than 32.5 points

Earlier this week, I made the mistake of projecting Beal for under 28.5 points on the night he exploded for 60. Lesson learned. The veteran sharpshooter is playing at a career-best level at the moment, averaging an absurd 35.0 points over 36 minutes per contest while shooting 48.9 percent, including 38.6 percent from distance. Beal followed up that 60-point effort with a 41-point haul Friday against the Celtics, and although the Heat sport a tough defense despite a 3-4 record, it’s difficult to bet against Beal at the moment, especially when he’s averaging an eye-popping 24.8 shot attempts per contest and another 9.6 per game from the charity stripe.

Jimmy Butler More than 20.5 points

Butler got his season off to a rough start before posting 18 and 26 points in his last two contests. I expect him to continue his resurgence Saturday, considering the Wizards are allowing the fourth-highest offensive efficiency in the league, partly due to the fact they surrender 49.5 percent shooting, including 40.0 percent from distance. Washington has been even generous to Butler’s small forward position from three-point range, allowing wings an NBA-high 48.6 percent success rate from behind the arc. Butler is shooting an uncharacteristically low 40.7 percent overall and has yet to drain any of his six three-point attempts, but I expect both areas to improve Saturday.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

MKF Contest: 4-Point Play (Draft Two Players that Exceed the Points + Threes Goal of 56.5 To Win 1.5x Entry Fee)

LaMarcus Aldridge and D’Angelo Russell

Aldridge is coming off a season-high 28-point haul against the Lakers in his second game back from a knee injury and he’s taking a career-high 4.8 three-point attempts per contest thus far. The Timberwolves have also been one of the most vulnerable teams down low, giving up the highest offensive efficiency rating (45.0) to centers due to allowing the highest field-goal percentage (66.0 percent), including the highest three-point percentage (50.0 percent), to the position. There’s a chance Karl-Anthony Towns returns for Minnesota on Saturday after being upgraded to questionable, but I still like Aldridge’s chances of a strong game given his usage.

Russell could also be affected by Towns’ return in terms of taking a bit of a usage hit, but the star point guard is still a focal point of the offense when KAT is on the floor. Russell is coming off a 33- and 26-point efforts in his last two games, and he’s posting career bests in both field-goal percentage (45.0 percent) and three-point shooting percentage (40.7 percent). The Spurs have also been vulnerable to offensive production from backcourts, surrendering 47.7 percent shooting to guards, including 42.3 percent from distance.
