Aaron Jones 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Aaron Jones was terrific in 2020, albeit inconsistent. During the first five games of the season he lived in the end zone, scoring 7 total touchdowns. He missed a couple of games with a calf issue, however, and wasn’t as prolific after returning in Week 9, managing just four touchdowns (all rushing) the rest of the way. Despite his ups and downs, Jones still averaged a career-best 104.2 yards from scrimmage per game.

One of the biggest variables when drafting Jones or any of his teammates is whether Aaron Rodgers is going to leave Green Bay. If Rodgers forces a trade or retires, that automatically makes the Packers’ offense worse and lowers the fantasy ceiling for everyone on the team. The one positive for Jones if Rodgers leaves is that Green Bay would likely lean more on the ground game and short passes with Jordan Love under center, thereby affording Jones more targets and carries.

Regardless of how the Rodgers saga plays out, Jones will continue to be the Packers’ main workhorse out of the backfield. In 30 games over the past two seasons, Jones has racked up 30 total touchdowns and over 3,000 yards from scrimmage. With Jamaal Williams leaving in free agency, Jones could see even more carries and passing work this year.

Aaron Jones 2021 Fantasy Football Draft Value (PPR)

As one of the few remaining feature backs in the NFL, Jones is a top fantasy commodity and a bankable second-round pick. Wherever Rodgers ends up, Jones is going to get a ton of touches this year, giving him an exceptionally high floor. After signing a four-year, $48 million contract in the offseason, he’ll continue to be a focal point of Green Bay’s offense and likely finish as a top-10 RB again.
