New York Jets 2021 Make Playoffs Bet: Schedule, Changes and Outlook

The Jets have some interesting games to circle on the calendar next season, including a matchup against their former quarterback, Sam Darnold, in Carolina. They’ll also face the Jacksonville Jaguars, who beat out New York for the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft and used it on quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

The Jets are turning the page this year with a new head coach (Robert Saleh) and quarterback (Zach Wilson). Gone is Adam Gase, who was a nightmare in his two seasons as head coach. Gase’s incompetence also triggered the end of Darnold’s short-lived tenure in New York despite being a top-three pick three years prior.

But for the first time in several seasons, New York has some hope with the additions of Saleh and Wilson. Saleh made a reputation for himself over the past four seasons as the defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers, commanding a dominant unit that reached the Super Bowl in the 2019-20 season. Saleh also brought offensive assistant Mike LaFleur over with him from San Francisco to serve as New York’s new offensive coordinator.

As for Wilson, the 21-year-old BYU product will take over a Jets offense that includes a talented assortment of wide receivers in Corey Davis, Denzel Mims, Jamison Crowder, Braxton Berrios, and fellow rookie Elijah Moore. The backfield is less impressive, consisting of Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson, and another fellow rookie in Michael Carter.

On the other side of the ball, Saleh hired Jeff Ulbrich as his defensive coordinator after the former NFL linebacker spent last season with the Atlanta Falcons in the same role. New York’s defense was a mess last year but will look to turn things around under new leadership.

Jets 2021 Make Playoffs Bet: Yes Or No For New York?

New York Jets To Make 2021-2022 NFL Playoffs? NO (-700)

While there is certainly some promise surrounding the Jets, it’s too far-fetched to expect them to be a playoff team just yet. Both Saleh and Wilson will need time to get acclimated to New York, and it would be unfair to expect them to flourish right away. It will be a while before they rebuild the Jets into a winning club, especially in a formidable AFC East.
