Kenny Golladay 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook
Golladay’s 2020 campaign was ruined by hamstring and hip flexor issues, which limited him to just five games and prevented him from playing at all after Week 8. At least he provided a glimpse of his elite talent when he did take the field, however, scoring two touchdowns and topping 100 yards twice.
The abbreviated season didn’t seem to cost Golladay much in free agency, as the New York Giants inked him to a four-year, $72 million deal, $28 million of which is fully guaranteed. The 27-year-old immediately becomes the team’s top receiving option, as the Giants have lacked a true WR1 since trading away Odell Beckham Jr. two years ago.
While Golladay will be the top dog in New York’s receiving corps, he’ll have plenty of support from the likes of Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton, Kyle Rudolph, Evan Engram, and 2021 first-round draft pick Kadarius Toney. The Giants also have a potent ground game led by Saquon Barkley, giving their offense loads of potential.
The keys to realizing that potential lie in the hands of quarterback Daniel Jones and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. Due to Jones’ erratic performance and Garrett’s conservative play-calling, the Giants finished second-to-last in points scored last year. With so many weapons in New York’s arsenal now, there is tons of pressure on both to produce better results this season.
Unless Jones makes a significant leap this year, he’s going to be a downgrade for Golladay compared to his previous quarterback, Matthew Stafford. Golladay will also have to compete for targets with his new teammates, several of whom have already established a rapport with Jones over his first two seasons. And if Barkley stays healthy, the Giants will look to run the ball a good amount too, especially in goal-line situations.
So while Golladay is still one of the top receivers in fantasy, he may struggle to reach the heights of his last two healthy seasons in Detroit. Assuming he doesn’t get hurt again, he should be good for over 100 targets and 1,000 receiving yards, although he may lose out on some touchdowns with so many other red-zone options around him.
Kenny Golladay 2021 Fantasy Football Draft Value
Last year, Golladay was valued as a second-round pick coming off his monster 2019, but this year he’s slipping to the third and fourth rounds in fantasy drafts. While Golladay carries a bit more risk this year due to his team situation and last year’s injury woes, he’s certainly worth taking there as a high-upside WR2 with WR1 potential depending on how New York’s offense comes together.
