Steelers 2021 Schedule, Changes, and Outlook

The Pittsburgh Steelers started off 2020 on fire, going 11-0 to begin the season and looking like a force to be reckoned with in the AFC. Their momentum faded quickly, however, as they lost four out of their last five regular season games before getting bounced in the Wild Card Round by the Cleveland Browns. The Steelers have a tough schedule ahead of them in 2021, but they should be able to hold their own if they avoid the injury bug this year.

While some speculated that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger might hang it up this past offseason, the 39-year-old is back for his 18th season in the NFL. He’ll once again team up with wideouts Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool, and JuJu Smith-Schuster, as well as tight end Eric Ebron. That continuity should pay dividends this year, as Roethlisberger will already have a built-in comfort level with his receiving options.

Pittsburgh’s running game will look different this year, however, after James Conner departed in free agency for the Arizona Cardinals. The Steelers filled the void by taking Alabama running back Najee Harris with their first-round draft pick, so he’ll be expected to provide an immediate impact. Pittsburgh also drafted promising young linemen Kendrick Green and Dan Moore to bolster an offensive line that lost left tackle Alejandro Villanueva to free agency.

As for the defense, the Steelers dealt with a slew of injuries last year and lost edge rusher Bud Dupree to free agency, but linebacker Devin Bush Jr. is expected back from a torn ACL at some point. With Prow Bowlers T.J. Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Cameron Heyward, there’s still plenty of top tier talent for an elite unit that forced the second-most turnovers in the NFL last year (27).

Steelers 2021 Make Playoffs Bet: Yes Or No For Pittsburgh?

Steelers Make 2021 NFL Playoffs? YES (+150)

While they’ll be hard-pressed to win their division again, the Steelers should be able to bounce back from their ugly finish to 2020 and contend for a wild card spot. They have a wealth of talent on both sides of the ball, plus an outstanding coach in Mike Tomlin. As long as Roethlisberger’s performance doesn’t fall off a cliff, Pittsburgh is a strong bet for another winning season and a return to the postseason.
