Week 19 Fantasy Basketball Sleepers: Kent Bazemore Seizing New Role With Warriors

Last Updated: May 7, 2021

Kev Mahserejian offers up his Week 19 Fantasy Basketball Sleepers, and his NBA Week 19 Sleeper Picks might include waiver-wire pickups who’ve fallen through the cracks into free agency. Roster percentages refer to figures from Yahoo! Sports fantasy basketball leagues.

Week 19 Fantasy Basketball Sleepers

Kent Bazemore, SG/SF, Golden State Warriors (14% rostered)

Kelly Oubre (wrist) is probably out for the rest of the season due to ligament damage and a fracture in his wrist. This creates a massive hole in the Warriors’ wing rotation that Kent Bazemore will attempt to fill. Bazemore has been moderately productive over the past 9 games. This may seem arbitrary but that is when he was inserted into the starting lineup in Golden State,

As a starter, Bazemore is averaging 10.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.9 steals and 2 threes while shooting 43.6% from the field. Bazemore is a weirdly bad free-throw shooter and has only made 58.8% of his attempts over this stretch on 2 attempts per game (his career mark is a measly 72%). He missed two games recently due to health and safety protocols but has been fine since his re-insertion to the active roster. With 4 games this week, Bazemore could be crucial to your fantasy basketball success.

Frank Jackson, PG, Detroit Pistons (13%)

Frank Jackson is a former top recruit (14th overall in 2016) who has been lost in the NBA up until this point. Luckily, the Detroit Pistons have provided the opportunity to Jackson as a primary scoring guard in their barren backcourt.

Since his return to play on March 15th, Jackson is averaging 12.2 points on 48.4% from the field with threes per game. Do not expect much more than scoring numbers but multiple ~20-point games in recent weeks make that palatable. His rebounding is at least decent and the turnovers are not egregious.

Most importantly, Jackson and the Pistons play 5 games this week. He could disappoint in 2 of them and still be a much better option off of the waiver wire than 90% of what is available.

Guillermo Hernangomez, C, New Orleans Pelicans (10%)

Guillermo (formerly known as “Willy") Hernangomez has been as productive as ever with Steven Adams out due to a toe injury. Over the past week, he has averaged a near double-double with 11 points and 9.3 rebounds along with a 63% FG, 83% FT and 2 stocks per game.

Now, this is obviously a minuscule sample and he will be limited upon Adams’ return but assuming that is still a week away, Hernangomez can be a monster producer for anyone in need of rebounds and FG help.

The Pelicans play 4 games this week allowing for a dud or even Adams’ return later on to ruin one game. They play a back-to-back set to start the week and given Adams’ questionable status, it is fair to presume he sits out until the last two games at best.
