I could not believe I found this prop bet at +190 odds. At this point, it’s common knowledge that the Jaguars are drafting Trevor Lawrence, and the Jets are heavily favored to take Zach Wilson.
What Kyle Shanahan‘s 49ers do with the 2021 NFL Draft’s No. 3 overall pick is what will make or break this prop bet.
Earlier this week, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the 49ers are deciding between drafting North Dakota State’s Trey Lance and Alabama’s Mac Jones, leaving Ohio State’s Justin Fields out of the equation at No. 3 overall.
The 49ers traded significant draft capital to move up to this spot, and I cannot see them risking it all on Jones. I think Lance will be the pick here.
The 49ers already employ Jimmy Garoppolo, who could be traded after this No. 3 selection is made. Is Jones really an upgrade over Jimmy G? Probably not.

Full disclosure, at (-250) odds, this is a 2021 NFL Draft prop bet that I am going to pass up. The situation with the 49ers at No. 3 is much too murky for me to buy into in a heavy betting favorite like this one.
However, according to ESPN’s Todd McShay, Shanahan prefers Mac Jones at No. 3 overall while several members of San Francisco’s brass are pushing for Trey Lance. Adam Schefter also believes Jones will be the pick. Alabama’s SEC schedule could have prepared Jones for the NFL, but he was around a National Championship-caliber supporting cast.
Shanahan loves getting his way. In 2015, he resigned from his offensive coordinator gig with the Cleveland Browns after disagreeing with the front office’s decision to start rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel. Perhaps Shanahan will get his way here, as head coach, and draft Jones No. 3 overall.
