Clayton Kershaw had a rough outing in his first start of the season against the Rockies in Colorado. He gave up five earned runs and only struck out two in 5 2/3 innings.
That should not happen this time, as Kershaw faces the Oakland Athletics. Oakland is tied with the Dodgers for the sixth-most strikeouts by a team so far in the season. This bodes well for Kershaw, who despite losing some velocity on his fastball, still possesses a nasty slider and curveball.
Expect to see those pitches on display tonight, and choose over 5.5 K’s for Kershaw on MKF.
Luke Weaver, SP, Arizona Diamondbacks (at. Colorado Rockies): Fewer than 5.5 Pitching Strikeouts
Luke Weaver plays in his first game of the season against Colorado tonight. Last season he appeared in 12 games for Arizona and struck out more than five batters in four of those games. He never went longer than 5 2/3 innings in any games last season, and with limitations on a lot of pitchers because of last year’s shortened season, it’s likely he doesn’t last too long in tonight’s game.
On top of that, the Rockies are actually one of the more disciplined teams so far this season, with the fifth-fewest strikeouts as a team.
Weaver does have a solid career K/9 rate of 9.33, but tonight that will not matter and he will not reach 5.5 strikeouts.
