Finding out who Trevor Bauer would sign with during the offseason felt like a long and winding room. Today, that winding road ends in Colorado, with Bauer as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Bauer will take on a Rockies team who won yesterday’s opener by the score of 8-5. In that Rockies victory, they had struck out just four times. I believe the low strikeouts will continue and that Bauer’s MKF number of 8.5 will land under. The big reason for this has more to do with a rough Spring Training in which Bauer posted a 4.24 ERA and averaged 4.6 strikeouts over his first games pitched.
There will be plenty of strikeouts in Bauer’s first seasons as a Dodger, but there will not be more than 8.5 today.
Pablo Lopez, SP, Miami Marlins (vs. Tampa Bay Rays): More than 5.5 Pitching Strikeouts
In six of his 11 starts last season, Pablo Lopez had more than 5.5 strikeouts. One of those games came in September, against this Tampa Bay Rays team.
While I expect that the Rays will win their second game of the season today, there will be strikeouts along the way. Yesterday was no different as the Marlins struck out the Rays hitters a total of 10 times.
The belief in previous seasons is that some hitters have a hard time getting into a groove to start the seasons. Yesterday’s performance from the Rays might have been an indicator of that and I expect Lopez to take advantage of that and total six strikeouts.
