World Cup favourites
France
After losing to Argentina in 2022, France is looking to come back in 2026 in a big way. This roster is loaded with talent, led by Kylian Mbappé, and including 2025 Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, Michael Olise, Désiré Doué, Hugo Ekitiké, and more.
France should be considered among the top 2 favourites to win the tournament with Spain. Few other teams have their strength in depth combined with their cohesion. Their star power is also likely to turn heads, and Mbappé especially has shown that he is a master at performing on the biggest stages of all. Expect great things.
Spain
While Lamine Yamal tore his hamstring and will miss the rest of Barcelona’s season, he’s expected back for the World Cup. The injury has caused Spain’s odds to shift a bit, but they’re still among the favourites.
The last time Spain lost a match in 90 minutes was in March 2024 to Colombia. Spain will head into the tournament with one of the best trios in all of soccer: Martín Zubimendi, Rodri, and Pedri.
Injury is the only concern for Spain, as Rodri has had a rocky couple of seasons and Yamal's hamstring will be a worry. It's very possible he'll only play one half in the group stage games, as Spain look to cruise through to the knockout stages. Even without Yamal, though, Spain have a wealth of attacking talent, with Fernan Torres and Mikel Oyarzabal in particular showing that they have what it takes to shine in international football.
This squad also has a great mix of experience, and even the younger players already have a major international trophy under their belts after winning Euro 2024. Spain will be the favourites for many.
England
England has just one World Cup to its name, which came way back in 1966. Still, whenever you have a roster with players like Harry Kane, Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka, and Jude Bellingham, you’re in a good position to win. Harry Kane is among the favourites to win the Golden Boot if he's selected.
