Liverpool vs Chelsea Odds - Who Will Win This Weekend?
Liverpool host Chelsea on Saturday in a clash that both teams will be keen to win. I expect goals at either end of the pitch, although the absence of key players for Liverpool may dim their attacking impact. Here’s my preview of the game.
What Are the Odds on Liverpool vs Chelsea This Weekend?
Liverpool are considered favourites to win the game, with Chelsea on a terrible run of form and Liverpool sitting several positions above them in the table. The home advantage of Anfield should also never be underestimated. However, odds on a draw or a Chelsea win aren’t as long as you might expect, and there’s a case to be made for betting either way.
This Game Is Unlikely to Be a No-Score Draw
These teams have both been prolific goalscorers and defensively poor this season. As of May 4th 2026, Liverpool are the 4th highest-scoring team in the Premier League with 59 goals, with Chelsea in 6th with 54 goals.
However, they are each significantly further down the chart for goals conceded - Liverpool are 11th on goals conceded with 47, while Chelsea are one position behind in joint 12th with 48 goals conceded. With an average of at least one goal scored and conceded per team every game, betting on a 0-0 draw seems like a long shot, which is why odds are sky-high for a dull goalless draw prediction.
One mitigating factor is that much of Liverpool’s attacking line-up could be missing, although after Nottingham Forest put 3 goals past a dire Chelsea defence on Monday, Liverpool likely still have the tools for the job.
Liverpool’s Recent Form
Liverpool ended a positive run of three victories with a bitter 3-2 loss against rivals Manchester United this week. The nature of the loss will sting, and the team will be desperate to find enough consistency to achieve a top-four finish. While the expanded Champions League format means that Liverpool’s position is almost certainly secure, finishing below Aston Villa would be a blow for a club that won the title last season.
Liverpool have also endured a significant injury list recently, which may hurt their chances of beating Chelsea.
Chelsea’s Recent Form
Chelsea have endured a dismal run in the Premier League, losing their last 5 games. This has left them languishing mid-table when just a month or two ago, they looked like serious Champions League contenders. The club’s ownership will expect more, and interim coach Calum McFarlane will hope that his second Premier League start as coach goes better than his first, where Chelsea were drubbed 3-1 by Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge.
Several Top Scorers Out of Action or in Doubt for Liverpool
One point in Chelsea’s favour is that several of Liverpool’s key attacking prospects are in doubt for this game. Hugo Ekitike is out with a long-term injury, while both Mo Salah and Alexander Isak are in doubt for Saturday. Arne Slot will hope that at least one of his key players is ready for this game, which Liverpool need to win if they’re to continue their top-four aspirations.
It’s difficult to make a pick for a certain player to score, given the absence of the most likely suspects. While there are likely to be goals in this game, where they come from is a much broader question.
What’s at Stake for Liverpool?
Each team has a lot to play for despite the late stage in the season. Also, while “playing for pride” typically indicates that a team is coasting to a finish, both these teams have a lot to gain from putting in a good performance even if it doesn’t affect their prospects for next season.
Liverpool have all but mathematically secured Champions League football, and are likely to share either 4th or 5th with Aston Villa. However, the idea of the “top 4” is an enduring concept in English football, and Liverpool will hope to count themselves among that number on the final day. This is especially true given that old rivals Manchester United have been resurgent lately - with both Manchester sides near the top of the table, Liverpool need to remain competitive.
Equally, Arne Slot will feel a lot more pressure if his team finishes 5th than 4th. Slot’s fate at the end of this season is still in question, and he will ride the goodwill from his initial title-winning season at the club. However, a strong finish puts him in a much better position for the summer.
A Difficult Game to Predict
This is the kind of game that looks great in an accumulator as a Liverpool win, but presents a higher risk than I’d like. Liverpool are certainly favourites, but Chelsea will rebound at some point - could it be this weekend?
