Juan Soto To Win 2021 NL MVP
Bet $20, Payout $190
Juan Soto really elevated his game to new heights last season, slashing .351/.490/.695 with 13 home runs and six stolen bases in 196 plate appearances. He put up a 201 wRC+ (1st) with 90th-percentile exit velocity. Soto increased his walk rate to 20.9 percent while cutting his strikeout rate to 14.3 percent. This is an ascending player who might be the best hitter in baseball right now.
Soto hits in a strong lineup, so the counting stats will be there to help earn MVP votes. If the Nationals are able to make the playoffs, there’s a great chance that he’ll be one of the leading candidates for the award. Soto is tied with Mookie Betts as the favorite, but the value is still there at +850.

- Max Scherzer (+800)

Max Scherzer To Win 2021 NL Cy Young
Bet $20, Payout $180
Max Scherzer enters his age-37 season in a contract year, coming off one of the worst seasons of his career. That sounds like the perfect storm for a bounce-back. Scherzer’s stuff showed no signs of decline last year, as he still put up a strong swinging-strike rate (14.7%) and his fastball velocity remained at 94 MPH. This is a pitcher with no concerns with volume, as the Nationals will lean on their ace to carry their pitching staff.
Scherzer currently ranks second behind Jacob deGrom for NL Cy Young. When looking at the starting pitchers in the NL, it appears that deGrom and Aaron Nola are his only real threats for the award. Blake Snell and Yu Darvish will have to transition to new teams. Walker Buehler will likely be limited with his innings, and Luis Castillo pitches for the rebuilding Reds. It’s hard not to bet on the Mad Max bounce-back.

Washington Nationals To Win 2021 NL East
Bet $20, Payout $170
The Nationals are currently overlooked in this division because of a Braves team stacked with young talent and a new-look Mets squad that just added star shortstop Francisco Lindor, but the 2019 World Series champions are still contenders.
The lineup remains strong with 22-year old phenom Juan Soto and star shortstop Trea Turner leading the way. They’ll be joined by newly acquired first baseman Josh Bell and outfielder Kyle Schwarber, who should add some power to a lineup that posted a 104 wRC+ (14th) in last year’s shortened season.
The starting rotation was disappointing last season, with Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg dealing with injuries and Patrick Corbin having a down year. It was tough for players to get into a routine in 2020, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see these three veterans bounce back in a full season. The Nats added veteran lefty, Jon Lester, to act as an innings-eater at the back-end of a staff that projects to be one of the best in baseball.
The team also bolstered their bullpen, signing veteran closer Brad Hand to take over ninth-inning duties. Hand was highly effective in 2020, posting a 2.05 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, and 29.1 K-BB%. Setup relievers Tanner Rainey and Daniel Hudson have great stuff with elite strikeout rates, forming a formidable trio at the back-end of this bullpen.
The Nationals still have World Series upside in 2021, so this is a great value bet to win the division. Take advantage of recency bias with the Braves and Mets. Bet on the team that is one year removed from a championship.
