The Dolphins selected Tua Tagovailoa with the fifth overall pick in 2020 and despite a disappointing rookie season, the team appears to be focused on surrounding him with playmakers rather than selecting a new quarterback.
This makes the Dolphins a prime trade-down candidate to a QB-needy team looking to move up to select Ohio State star Justin Fields, which is why he’s favored for this pick, or another top talent.
If the Dolphins keep the pick, we could see them go with offensive tackle Penei Sewell, who would allow 2020 first-rounder Austin Jackson to slide over to the right side. The team could also reunite Tua with college teammate DeVonta Smith or potential alpha WR1 Ja’Marr Chase to bolster Miami’s skills group.
Quarterback Zach Wilson will likely be taken by the Jets at Pick 2. Offensive tackle Rashawn Slater is a longshot; Sewell is a superior prospect at the same position. The same goes for Trey Lance, with Wilson and Fields being better options at this stage of the draft.

Having already selected Tua in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Dolphins likely will relish the opportunity to trade down and stockpile picks with such a strong quarterback class in this draft. Miami can swap picks with the Falcons (4th) or Eagles (6th) and still get Chase or Smith as a new weapon for Tua.
The Dolphins could also beef up their offensive line with Slater by trading down.

DeVante Parker and Preston Williams are fine, but Chase would give the team a future superstar on the perimeter.
