2021 Fantasy Football Busts Projections Week 10 | Sit ‘Em Picks & Players Who’ll Disappoint

With Nate Hamilton off this week, I will be taking his place writing his Fantasy Football Busts column for NFL Week 10. I hope I don’t disappoint.

Week 10 is a pivotal part of the fantasy football campaign. Many teams are likely still in the playoff hunt, and every week counts.

Just because a player has a notable name or has been productive in the past doesn’t mean that they should be in your starting lineup, however. You must factor in all the variables when building and setting your lineup.

Now, let’s discuss who the top players to avoid are for Week 10.

2021 Fantasy Football Busts for Week 10 – Quarterback

Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders vs Kansas City Chiefs

Carr is a tough sit this week against a generous Chiefs’ defense allowing the third-most FPPG (25.8) to enemy quarterbacks.

While Kansas City’s defense has been gashed this season, they have tightened up of late, surrendering fewer than 15.3 fantasy points to quarterbacks in two of their past four games. What’s more, the Chiefs have not allowed a passer to throw for more than 300 yards or three touchdowns since Week 5.

Speaking of Carr, he had a smash matchup against the Giants last week and failed to deliver. The loss of Henry Ruggs appears to be an immense blow to Carr’s ceiling, as Raiders’wideouts totaled just eight receptions for 69 yards and a score on 17 targets last week

With a 5:4 TD/INT ratio over his last four games, Carr is a risky fantasy play here.

Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings @ Los Angeles Chargers

I’m worried about Cousins in Week 10’s matchup at the Chargers. Not only is there a distraction looming in Minnesota stemming from the recent Dalvin Cook allegations, but this matchup against Los Angeles will be one of the most difficult ones he faces all year.

The Chargers are yielding the second-fewest FPPG (18.1) to enemy signal callers while surrendering the second-fewest yards (1,679) and touchdowns (10) through the air.

Los Angeles’ defense has also only allowed one quarterback to throw north of 300 yards and one to throw for three scores. They are as stingy as they come.

This will be a boom-or-bust game for Cousins, who has thrown for less than 200 yards in each of his last two games. He will either pop or fizzle, and I’m betting on the latter.

2021 Fantasy Football Busts for Week 10 – Running Back

Elijah Mitchell, San Francisco 49ers vs Los Angeles Rams

I would temper expectations if you are considering starting Mitchell in Week 10 against the Rams at home on Monday Night Football. While the rookie back has flashed this season, he’s also had a few down games. This could another downer.

Mitchell ran well last week en route to 12.9 PPR points against the Arizona Cardinals. He only carried the ball eight times for 36 yards, however. The bulk of his damage was done as a receiver, hauling in all five of his targets for 43 yards.

Mitchell was game-scripted out of his normal double-digit carry workload, which could happen again on Monday night.

The 49ers are also getting healthier at running back. While Jeff Wilson did not play a snap last week, it was his first opportunity back from injury. JaMycal Hasty is also in the mix. With San Francisco needing a spark, Kyle Shanahan could elect to shuffle up his backs.

Additionally, 49ers RT Mike McGlinchey tore his quad last week and is done for the year. One of the best run-blocking tackles in the NFL, his loss will not help Mitchell’s cause either.

Myles Gaskin, Miami Dolphins vs Baltimore Ravens

Gaskin has a terrific matchup against the Ravens on Thursday Night Football. Baltimore’s defense is ceding the eighth-most FPPG (25.9) to running backs this season, though they have been better of late.

The Ravens have given up fewer than 15.2 PPR points to their opponent’s lead back in each of the past three games. Sure, they gave up 26.4 total points to Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine combined in Week 7, but much of their production came in clock-killing mode in a Bengals rout. Amidst that stretch, Baltimore held down both Austin Ekeler and Dalvin Cook.

Gaskin is an excellent receiving back and could see some run in the passing game, but will he deliver? A weird trend with Gaskin this season is that he scores in double digits every other game. If that trend continues, he is set up for a massive dud in Week 10.

2021 Fantasy Football Busts for Week 10 – Wide Receiver

Jakobi Meyers, New England Patriots vs Cleveland Browns

With an anticipated cornerback matchup against Denzel Ward in Week 10’s tilt against the Browns, I’m wary of starting Meyers in fantasy. Not only is this game projected to be a low-scoring affair between two run-heavy teams, but Meyers has yet to score a touchdown in this three-year NFL career, limiting his ceiling.

Despite operating as New England’s top wideout, Meyers has delivered fewer than 10 PPR points in 6-of-9 games, including five straight. He’s also drawn fewer than eight targets in four of his past five games.

Meyers is an easy fade for me in Week 10, as he hasn’t brought his presumed high floor since September.

Jarvis Landry, Cleveland Browns @ New England Patriots

With Odell Beckham Jr. released from the Browns, many expected Landry to take over as Cleveland’s WR1.  I am not sure that will be the case, however, as it seems like Donovan Peoples-Jones is emerging as Baker Mayfield‘s favorite target.

Meanwhile, Landry has had a tough run in 2021, netting fewer than 40 receiving yards in three of his five games thus far. He’s also yet to score a receiving touchdown this season and has seen his production fluctuate wildly on a week-to-week basis.

Landry seems likely to struggle against the Patriots as well, who have one of the league’s better defenses. Since getting lit up by Dak Prescott in Week 6, New England has allowed a combined 26/284/3 stat line to enemy wideouts from Weeks 7-9 and gets another mediocre passing attack on Sunday.

2021 Fantasy Football Bust for Week 10 – Tight End

Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams @ San Francisco 49ers

Higbee has been one of the biggest disappointments in fantasy football this season, and his woes will likely continue in Week 10 against San Francisco.

Higbee drew a season-high 10 targets last week, hauling in five of them for 51 yards. It was only his second game with more than 50 receiving yards this season, however, and he hasn’t been much of a factor in the red zone with just two touchdowns thus far.

Now, Higbee will get a 49ers defense that has allowed just 9.4 FPPG to opposing tight ends this season — the eighth-fewest in the NFL. They have not allowed an opposing tight end to catch more than three passes for go for more than 38 yards since Week 1, which doesn’t bode well for Higbee here.

More Week 10 Busts To Avoid:

  • Jared Cook, Los Angeles Chargers vs Minnesota Vikings

2021 Fantasy Football Bust for Week 10 – Defensive Team

Philadelphia Eagles D/ST @ Denver Broncos

The Eagles’ D/ST has been a solid play this season in the right matchup, averaging 5.4 FPPG which is middle-of-the-pack. While this week’s game in Denver is projected to be a low-scoring matchup based on our NFL gameday odds, Philly’s struggles against the run are likely to be exploited on the road.

Teddy Bridgewater is also a veteran game manager who rarely turns the ball over, as he has only five interceptions and no fumbles in nine games this year. There are better streaming options out there than Philadelphia’s D/ST in Week 10.
